2001 LINCOLN LS V6 - ROUGH IDLE / SOMETIMES STALLING.

2001 Lincoln LS V6, well taken care of, 70k miles. Serviced every 15k.

-----

Check engine light went on, car runs fun drives great. When idling the rmps run from 500 to 1,000 up and down, up and down up and down and you can hear it too.

It eventually gets to the point where it idles below 500 and stalls. Starts right back up no problem. When driving car is fine, only bad on idle.

Thinking maybe o2 sensor?

Very common problem is about a dime size hole wearing in the rubber elbow on the PCV valve located on the driver side rear of the intake manifold.

I have this car and had the same problem. The codes on mine were P0171 and P0174 running lean on banks 1 & 2. The most common problem is what the first answer mentioned, a hole in the PCV elbow, or a dirty or inoperable MAF sensor. On my car it was the PCV elbow.

Replace the idle air controller. Plenty of videos around to show you how.

Hello, I just had my 2000 Lincoln LS serviced 42,000 miles. They did a transmittion fuild change and stated that everything was in great condition. I noticed the las couple of times when I put my vehicle...

Transmission fluid changes/flushes can be a tricky thing, when they replace the fluid, sometimes it releases some buildup and can cause improper function and undesired operation. Call the shop that performed the service and see what they recommend.

05 Lincoln LS 3.0 V6. Outside air temp 32F. Idle decay when cold

This sounds like you have a pcv hose that has become an open vacuum leak. It is located under the upper intake, or given the year your air filter box may not be correctly sealed and possibly have a mass air flow sensor concern. Any Check engine light or codes to work with ? I f you have further questions just leave a comment on my page,

Location: Coolant Temp Sensor 2001 Lincoln LS V6

It is on the Driver side of engine in between the COP's (Coil on plugs) simply unplug the wire use a 19 or 3/4 deep well socket and unscrew it and put it new one... The whole process should only take 10-15 minutes.
