When the car is completely cool,check the electric fan(s) for smooth rotation.

Clean/check/change the thermo sensor,contact and wire.

===

Excavate air pocket in coolant system / check for head gasket leak

This test will kill two birds with one stone.

===

MAKE SURE THE COOLANT SYSTEM and ENGINE IS COLD!

RAN THIS TEST IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA ONLY!

You will spill some coolant during this air pocket purge test.......BE KIND TO THE ENVIRONMENT and ANIMAL please clean up after the test!

===

Put the front end on a pair of ramp or park your car on a VERY STEEP HILL (radiator facing top of the hill) .

Top of the coolant reserve tank

Let it ran for 10-15 minutes.

Monitor for air pockets escaping from coolant reserve tank.

Small amount of bubbles is OK at 1-5 minute mark

After the thermostat open up (after 195 F warm up) at
5-12 minute mark or after high idle you should see less bubbles.

If you do not see any in rush of bubbles then your thermostat may be partially stuck or rusted badly inside the thermostat hosing.

Give the thermostat host few gentle taps.

If you see larger bubbles surfacing after 15 minutes then should do a hydrocarbon (HC) dye test to test for potential head gasket leak.

Let engine cold down and top off coolant reserve tank.

Start monitor for coolant lost

===

A coolant flush is require every 2 years or 24,000 miles.

I recommend the thermostat that has a relief pop-let to reduce the change of burst radiator and coolant hoses.

Make sure you get a new thermostat gasket,black RTV and fresh coolant for the job.

Check fuse and relay, check your coolant to make sure it isn't low, Can you jump the fan to see if the fan will work? If fan works, possibly coolant sensor.

How do I troubleshoot my 1993 Saturn sl1 the fan doesn't work so the car overheats, beings I'm a female, tired of depending on a am , please help

If you know for a fact the cooling fan is why the engine overheats, you would test the relay and the signal from the computer.
The relay gets power from the battery circuit and the key switch, and a ground signal from the computer when the fan is needed.
The engine temp sensor tells the computer how hot the engine is, and when it reaches 220 degrees the computer grounds the relay providing power to the fan motor.
You would need a meter or a test light and the wiring diagram for the circuit to find the problem.

Car overheats while standing

The radiator fan doesn't work , the problem may be or the fan itself , or the sernzor that activates the fan or poor contact at the senzor

Cooling fan temp light stays on when air condition is on. fans are not kicking on. Is it the fan module ?

I didn't know it had a light on the dash that said "cooling fan temp".
My 93 doesn't.
The cooling fans are controlled by the computer and turned on when the ac is running or when the engine reaches 220 degrees.
A mechanic would check the fuse and relay for power and the fan motor for power and ground.

2003 ford focus, overheats when AC is on

Have the radiator checked for blockage and replace the thermostat. If the above doesn't cure the problem you may have a leaking cylinder head gasket

Replaced thermastat but still overheating

OK, you have addressed the first possibility. There are a few more, each progressively more expensive to fix. First, are the radiator electric cooling fans operating? If you find the vehicle runs ok on the highway, but overheats around town in stop-and-go traffic, it could be that the fans are not running. Quick check for the fans - with the ignition on (the engine doesn't need to be running), move the cooling control to the A/C position. If the fans come on, they are good, but you could still have a fan-related cooling problem. If the fans don't work, you have a problem. If the fans worked, the car runs fine at highway speed but not in town, then suspect the coolant sensor that engages the fans. If the fans work and the car overheats in all conditions, then a system blockage is possible. Blockages occur usually one of two ways: Radiator rust/corrosion, and collapsed radiator hoses. Radiator corrosion will require radiator replacement; if it is blocked badly enough to overheat, flushing it is a waste of effort, and could cause more problems with all the **** you circulate into the engine. If the system is low on water (air in system) it can rise to the top radiator hose and cause it to collapse partially or fully, restricting flow. Some engines have water jackets that extend higher than the radiator cap, so they can trap air. These cars have bleeder ports at these locations to remove to trapped air. Check to see if that is the problem.

Hello and welcome, it sounds like you need to replace your fan clutch. Your Jeep has 2 cooling fans 1 runs off the engine the other is electric. Before replacing the fan clutch you need to make sure the electric cooling fan is working just turn on your a/c and it should kick on. If it does then the problem is your fan clutch is it doesn't then your electric fan is most likely bad.

Radiator fan doesn' run

If you can apply 12volts directly to the fan connection and it runs, then the fan thermostat is your problem. If a direct connection does not work, then the fan motor has failed and will need to be replaced.
