I have a 86 ford f250 with a straight 6. just bought it from the original owner and he said it is having carb problems. It starts, just won't turn over. He said the only problem is the carbs need cleaning. The only way to get it started, if it has been sitting for a while is to spray the carb while starting. Does his diagnosis sound right to you and if so, how hard is it to clean the carburetor.

SOURCE: Carb

When you set the choke there are many adjustments, most require linkage rod binding and a choke angle guage, also there is a cold high idle setting when the choke is on, all of these adjustments are different for each carburetor number, the carb number is stamped on the carb, there are 20 or so numbers of carbs for your truck they are called calibrations, My suggestion to you is to get the number off your carb and buy a rebuild kit made by Jiffy, they are the best and provide detailed instructions for each carb number covered by the kit.

SOURCE: my 86 f250 460 engine has hard time starting; New

Check the choke in the carb, might stay stuck in the open position when engine cools down. After the engine is cold, check and see if the choke is closed, if not close it by hand, and see if that works.

86 ford f250 no spark will turn over but not start

Check and see if the distributor is turning while turning the engine over. If not, you have a bad timing chain.

I need to correctly put a F250 with a 86 351 winsdor motor back in time? - time chain and gears

Not terribly complicated. Set the crankshaft at TDC on timing scale before you start, as a reference. If the cover is off just stick it back on there for a minute and same for harmonic balancer.
Once you have done that you should see a mark on the lower gear, either straight up at the top or straight down (if at bottom, put damper back on and turn till it points up.) You should be able to find a corresponding mark on the cam gear. That mark needs to point down, directly at the one on the crank gear. To do that, loosely install the cam gear on the cam and turn it till it lines up. Remove the cam gear and place the chain over it and the bottom gear. do not change the crank or cam position. To check for proper alignment, put the balancer on the crank ant turn it exactly two turns. the marks should return to original indexing. Make sure you have everything tightened up and then put the remainder of the engine back together.

1979 ford f250 wont start unless i put gas in CARB

first of all you have no carb its fuel injected, at least you know you have spark, now do you have fuel pressure??, is the fuel pump working?/ if you have fuel and pressure then you have to check signal at the injectors, so if you have fuel pressure and a good injector pulse the next step is to check the injectors, this may require removal, good luck
