Starter motor? hello how hard is it to change a starter motor on a golf gti 2.0l 16v N reg & where can i find a diagram on the web cheers

Heres a diagram which shows you how to line up the crankshaft on an auto trany or if it a manual trany and also line up the distributor, the crank diagram will list auto or mt this is for the type of trany as i said above, and the cam is also listed, hope this is helpful good day.

If it's a 16v motor, you probably are going to have some bent valves. The 16v motor is an interference fit motor. I would check to see if the cams are seized up. If not, the belt just wore out and broke.

this could be an ignition module problem.next time it happens you need to check if it has spark at the spark plug let me know cheers!

Green/blue to negative side of the coil, yellow to the positive side of the coil.

Your speedometer cable and or your speedometer is going bad.

If as you say....Nothing is happening at all when you turn the key, you appear to have one of two problems. A faulty starter motor--or--- A faulty ignition switch. If you can tap the starter motor while another person keeps the key turned to the start position, and the engine now starts you now know it is a starter problem. When doing this PLEASE MAKE SURE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF GEAR.
If it should start up, or even engage the starter motor while IN GEAR, serious injuries could happen, and I do not mean to your car.

may have a leaky cold start valve injector

There are a fair few things it could be after such a major job......but it sounds like the immobilizer is being activated as the engine control unit you have fitted wont be adapted to the original immobilizer control unit.i am pretty sure on a car of your age it is just a case of erasing the learnt values of the engine control unit .a diagnostic machine will be required.I would recomend a main dealer but you can probally find someone with VAGCOM who can sort it.Cheers

ive had this problem the loud tapping noise if properly you have the wrong oil in the engine the lifters only have a very small hole in for the to get in so if it to thick it cant get in causing the slapping noise.
