Is there anything difficult to remove and put back the gearbox on a Mercedes C class. I need to change the clutch kit and was advised not to do it myself

Hi,
Check again the shifting lever selector connection, you made a mistake in putting it back.
Tell us afterwards after you reconnect the shifter link again.
Hope that helps you!
Get the fluid checked in the gearbox, it could be the slave cylinder on it's way out, or the clutch could simply be jammed. Also look around the gearbox for fluid leaks.
It is difficult to say but I think it's most likely just jammed.
if auto find dip stick under bonnet at back or side of engine remove dipstick and fill there with a funnel..,looks like engine dipstick,if manual get under car and the filler plug is usually located half way up on the left or right side of the gear box(either a114-19mm bolt head or allen key scerw usually about mid way or either side of mid way of manual gearbox
It seems oil level is low in your gearbox, and it most likely leaking from adapter bushing ( where cable is connected to gearbox). You need to replace seals or complete bushing and correct oil level. Better if you visit your mechanic.
If you take it to mercedes they will charge £3500 and will replace the gearbox, Alternatively you can change the shifter valve £25, new sump and filter as they have changed, fit a magnet inside the gearbox as the early A didnt have one. Fresh oil and see how you get on, the control unit for the gearbox sits inside the gearbox £1000 roughly for a new one but it has to come from mercedes in germany where it is coded to your chassis number, 2nd control units are not an option!!!!!!!
