Billettechnologies.com sells a replacement cog to put your shifter backinto action. Their part replaces a factory plastic piece...no wonderthese are failing at a fast rate.
Here is the LINK to make this change out of parts...

I used a screw and nut to replace the plastic piece that broke. The plastic piece holds a spring end that basically keeps the car from being shifted while the brake is depressed. Lots of work to remove the shifter assembly but about 5 minutes so drill a small hole and put a nut and bolt in place of faulty engineered parts that break. Wha What!

There is a quick easy DODGE SECRET to getting your magnum out of park when this happens. Remove the cover around the shifter, look in front and locate the brake cable coming into the front of the shifter. Put your finger on the cable and feel the pink plastic part that the cable is going into in the front of the shifter. Now with your finger on this pink plastic part, crank the car, push the brake in, now push in on this pink plastic part where the cable goes into it. It will go in about half an inch, while holding it in put the car in drive and go. When you put the car in park again it will lock again and you will need to repeat these simple steps but you can drive the car and not have to pay a tow charge. I,ve been driving mine like this for two months till I get the time to fix it.

First thing I would check is to see if it has brake lights??? The shifter will not release unless brake pedal is pushed and works off the same circuit.

Can't get shifter into park

sounds like the parking pawl in the transmission or the manual shift valve is sticking or the manual linkage in the trans is bent. youll have to have a technician drop the trans pan and observe these parts with an assistant shifting the lever in the car back and forth. If the PRNDL light for park is not lit, then the vehicle is not completely in park. You can start and vehicle with the lever in NEUTRAL to get you anywhere.

Stuck key in on position, how to remove and replace cylinder

Before you do that. Try moving the shifter a few times from drive back to park. Sometimes these switches with the transmission won't allow you to return the cylinder to the complete neutral position if the park switch doesn't engage.

1996, stuck in park shifter moves fine, but car will not roll in neutral, but if i rock car back and forth it will pop out of park and then i can drive forward and backwards just fine. as soon as i put it...

The park pawl is spring loaded and it sounds like that spring has broken. The problem is, the trany has to be removed from the car and completely disassembled to fix it. The linkage for park is all mechanical, the transmission could be completely out of fluid and park should still work. I guess, I would get into the habbit of setting the park brake, then put the car in park and pull it out of park, before you release the park brake. You could also leave the shifter in the neutral position and set the park brake. This will allow you to start the car but you won't be able to remove the key. Hopefully the brake cables are not all rusted up. Good luck.

Transmition stuck in drive

sounds like shifter cable busted... pop the hood and look at drivers side, have another person move the shifter so you can locate the cable... then find the arm coming off the transmission move it all the way one direction it will be either park or low range and that should get you moving again...

My renault megane automatic is stuck in reverse and won't start

Hi all,
I have a 2002 Renault Megane 1.6 Convertible and experienced exactly the same fault. Needed a team effort but we found a very easy quick fix to this problem. If you take the plastic cover off from under the gear shifter, you will notice a release button covered by a rubber cover. Pressing this release button allows the gear shifter to move from its locked/jammed position. (This is not the fix but it helps with the fix).
If you are fortunate enough to have a 2nd person available, have them poke their head under the bonnet to watch the Gearbox cable move....while you are shifting the gear shifter inside the vehicle. Your partner will see that a cable with a plastic locking device (right hand side of the engine cover) has popped off the shifter for the transmission. Move the shifter until you can physically put the plastic locking device back on the shifter mechanism and your all good to go. No need for that new gearbox that you might have been quoted on!! An easy fix that I am surprised no mechanically minded professional/body in the world has volunteered the solution to. I wonder why????

Good luck!

92 chev truck, ignition is stuck in on-position,can't get key out

Sounds like a shifter problem. If the shifter is not completely in the park position it will not let the switch to be turned off. One thing to try is disconnect the shifter cable from the transmission and see ir the shifter will then move farther into the park position to allow the key to come out. Something is probably not allowing the lever to fully go into park not allowing the switch to move into the off position

Shifting in drive from park position

that means the pin that the knob presses down is stuck on something. if you take the shifting panel off it showes everything. then there will be a plastic guide. see what the pin is sticking on and there you are.
