How to start 2006 jeep commander with broken key fob

Make sure you have the right key. Check and see if it works in another door or the rear hatch. If it works you could have something rusted or sticking. Does it go all the way in? Will it turn freely both ways? If so then something could be broken inside. If it does not go all the way in or sticks try spraying some WD40 or rust out, or penetrating oil into the key slot. If that does still not work you will have to take the inside door panel off. Hope this helps.

Yes they are related. Sounds like you need a new lock cylinder and possibly a new lock solenoid.

the car came with 2 RKE FOBs
are both dead.?
alway have 3 FOB if not you can not reprogram a new one. self.
can cost you $300 for more to tow your car to the dealer if the 1 fob dies. never run one fob. or bad happens.
put in a new battery in the FOB for door issues
the transponder part does not use the battery .
the transponder must be good, or the car would never run.
the jeep cuts fuel after 2 seconds if the transponder fails.

there are 3 ways to lock.
key metal
on door switches
and the FOB, RKE.

so is this a fob question? key fob? only failure???????
did you know that many fob modes are PROgrammable?
the operators guide tells you how to do that.
did you try both fobs, that came with car new., if not why not?
did you replace the 8 year old fob batteries, no , why not now.?

on my 08 (for example) :
can program it to only open drivers door. or all.
and autolock feature off or on.

on my other car all was worked fine. then drives door failed
to open (all 3 fobs fail, one is new) the door solenoid was bad.
$100 part. now fixed, by me.
so do all fobs fail. if in fact this is a FOB question
RKE (called remote key entry by jeep)

i have 4 fobs for my jeep now. you must have 2 good keys.
to make a 3rd by self.
so keep 2 , never ever used. to be self sufficient.
this is not a door issue, above 3 lines, its a not getting stranded issue.

if both fobs fail, bad solenoid, if metal key works.

if metal dont work, the lock is frozen with ICE, got ICE?(hair dryer fixes it)
no ice ?,then lube the lock with graphite,lube. if key fails.
if key dont fail and you get 12v to solenoid, then the solenoid is bad

remote may need a new battery despite the light coming on. It could be the remote needs reprogramming. Do you have the user or alarm manual? you'll still need a spare key fob to get you into the vehicle?

Not sure, like always check the fuses If it's blank and non responsive check for power to the power wire at the back of the unit. Might have to replace, just not to sure on this one. If you do some testing and comment back we can try to come up with steps for you to take.

check all fuses and battery connections start there.

Yes, insure that you have power to the trunk lock inside trunk, If not could be lose/broken wire or shot fuse. I am sure the key fob does work for the doors? If not have key fob battery replaced. Also, a quick check on power to trunk lock, check to see if have remote power button inside car, if it works power is good. Defective key fob would then be indicated.

Common problem in snow country where salt water can corrode starter parking gate wire connection at started tab. Just cleanthe connector and tab, coat in dielectric grease, problem solved in 15 minutes!
