"Drive belt"? Are you referring to the serpentine belt that spins the alternator and water pump? You can get these from most good auto parts stores. Take your vehicle details, (Make, model, registration number and engine size), and they should be able to look up and supply the correct belt. This method applies to most parts for any car.
If in fact they are doing it sometimes, but not all the time, this is indicating worn out belts, and they need replacement.
Belts can look good, but can slip and squeal when they get hard and brittle.
I, too, have had that experience with my Hondas.
If the belts did it all the time, you would look for a defect in of the components that the belt is driving. ( Water pump, a/c compressor, idler pulley, power steering pump, alternator, etc.)
God bless your efforts.
Use 2 People. 1 behind the wheel, put engine in gear, hold the brake and increase the engine speed, While the 2nd person looks st theengine torquing to see if anything rubs or the BELT is slipping.
very much sounds like a belt ,and that was the alternator light whether the same beltdrives them both or it was stalled with abit of the belt that was breaking up ,who knows ?i wouldn`t recommend you drive it dependant on the type of power steering it is ,some serious damage could result ,that would be a lot more to fix than the cost of a tow .
Just look at the area where the drive belt is located (the front of the engine). Look carefully at the components that the belt is driving. The component that has a black radiator hose attached to it is the water pump. Hope this helped and best wishes.
timing belt and most drive belts are good for 70,000miles, i think the mechanic trying to take you for a ride, as for the drive belts inspect them if there is any cracking ware marks etc replace them but seriously if they look like new which they should with only that many miles would not need replacing.
