Because the anti-theft indicator light illuminates, I suspect this situation is being caused by the passive anti-theft system (PATS). PATS is incorporated into a vehicle to prevent it from being driven away by an unauthorized person. When the ignition is switched on, the transceiver energizes the electronically-coded key and reads the code that is transmitted back. If the code matches what is stored in the control module, the powertrain control module (PCM) will allow the engine to start. Otherwise, the engine is immobilized via the starter disable relay and PCM. Bypassing the starter relay would cause the starter to crank over the engine however the PCM will still prevent it from running by disabling the fuel and/or ignition spark. The best way to address this concern is by determining why the PATS system thinks you, the owner, is an unauthorized person. Byfar the most common problem is with the key itself; a properly coded key must be used. If you have more than one key, try using the spare to see if that makes a difference. If one allows engine starting, the other key is faulty or needs to be recoded. If neither work, in-depth diagnosis of the PATS will be required. No by-pass or hotwiring system ---check key for excessive wear or damage as well as ignition cylinder ----have vehicle scanned for problem codes
