I'm led to believe that your grammar is not quite up to par when it comes to describing your vehicle issues! Your telling me that your engine cranks (turns over) but won't turn over! Do you see the discrepancy in your wording. So me being an English major I come to think that you mean your engine turns over but doesn't start which could be numerous things, such as check for spark check for fuel check engine compression first three things to check post

A no-start condition can occur with several different symptoms. Have a clear understanding of which one applies to your vehicle when having the problem diagnosed.

Here are the most common symptoms:

  • Engine will not turn over (or crank over)
  • Engine will turn over (crank) but will not start
  • Engine starts and dies (stalls)

you dont have a good enough connection from the battery to the ground or the live wire on the battery is a weak connection.. Run a new wire from the negative side of the battery and attach it to the body somewhere to a nut but bare the paint to do so and clean the bolt so you get good contact, can also run a wire to a bolt on the engine. Also check the connections to the battery both positive and neg and clean the battery terminals and cable terminals. A corroded terminal reduces cranking power by 80 percent.

Just put a new engne in my 2000 toyota celica gt. old engine spun a bearing and threw a rod. i have the new engine all hooked up i have spark an it cranks over but will not start. i also can not hear the...

If you have spark than your fuel pump should turn on for a couple seconds prior to cranking the ignition. Try turning the key to the on position without cranking and listen for the pump. You should hear a two second run by the pump. Be in a very quiet place to do this as it is not very loud. Or have someone listen by the fuel filler door with the cap out.

You might want to check your fuel pump relay for power as well. Maybe it is bumped or damaged fromt he engine swap? It should be up front with a bunch of other relays. Wouldnt it be funny if they took it out to make sure the engine wasnt cranked prematurely?!

Good luck and be careful.
