1997 Honda Odyssey. To replace the speedometer sensor is it the counter or main shaft sensor please?

more than likely the VVS speed sensor. Its on the top back side of the trany, under the throttle body. if thats the problem, they are around $50 or less new.

Here is a good website on VVS speed sensors. Its the same on almost all Hondas within the 90s, even on Acuras. So this sight will be valid on most its info for your Odyssey.

Lower right front of engine is the main-shaft speed sensor.The counter-shaft speed sensor is located in the lower right rear of the engine mounted in the transmission.

Transmission and idle

One of two things....He screwed up when replaceing the transmission and damaged the TPS sensor.... or the common problem is the TPS sensor got messed up when the rat ate the insulation off of the sensor and chewed through the wires.
Check with your local dealer about a warranty/recall on the TPS sensor.
