Do you mean what causes low oil pressure? This is a very reliable engine for the most part. If the oil light is on or gauge is reading low, have the oil pressure sensor inspected for failure. These sensors do go bad.
On both the V6 and V8 engines the Oil Sensor is located on top of the engine at the rear. You will need to remove the top of the intake manifold to get to it.
I think it is located near the bottom of the oil pan on the back side, you will probably have to drain the oil but I'm not sure. That is where mine is located however mine is a 2000 Chevy Impala LS.
