Question about Honda Cars & Trucks

2001 Honda Odyssey randomly stalls

My Honda Odyssey stalled three times now. It will run fine for days and then stalls. When I try to start it, it sounds like the engine wants to turn over but can't quite get there. Then, after about 10 tries or so, it'll start up again. This happened when idling at the stop light, after parking for half an hour and once during driving. Naturally I'm hesitant to drive it now as I cannot know where I will be when it happens again. My mechanic experienced this once and had the car for two weeks without it happening again. He said he cannot find the problem. Any ideas what I should do?

I had this happen once on an older car. Mine was caused by a loose carburetor. I tried everything and no luck then one day I put my hand on the carburetor to brace myself as I looked at the lower engine and I felt it move.

while your car is likely EFI, you could have an air leak along the intake. Get a can of brake cleaner spray and with the engine running, spray all the connection points and if the idle suddenly slows or speeds up, you found the leak.

then just tighten the connection and try again. If it does t change, you need to change the gasket.

hopefully this helps.

Engine stalls at idle. hard starting sometimes.can run absolutely perfect for a day or two.when engine stalls tach goes completely dead right now. cleaned out inside distributor with Wd40, thought it might...

stalls can be cause by at least 50reasons (and more for parts bad)
the #1 reason from 1920 to now, never doing tuneups.
ever read the operators guide? on tuneups? by mileage?
bingo

bar none. !
ill list (not a guess) the top three not tune up missed.
1: egr leaks. clean it, but is in the service sched for 50k on most cars made.
2: timing belt slipped.
3: isc sticking ,clean it.

the 50 ways are all under misfire, misfire causes too low RPM at idle
and has 50 failure paths. I can post the link, to the ways.
but will not.

Yes the IAC valve could be the problem, or the throttle body could be dirty.

95 Ford Taurus SHO 3.2 stalls randomly

On one of the occasions when it won't start back up, someone will need to figure out if you have lost spark to the plugs or fuel to the injectors to be able to troubleshoot the problem.

Car stalls and then sipts and supters when trying to restart and smokes

No the computer not going bad. The blue smoke is oil burning in the combustion chamber. The cause of this is most likely caused by worn piston rings. The way vehicle is running cause probably is do to loose of compression.

1999 honda odyssey-engine stalls while driving-electric is fine-

Maybe the solution
There is a recall on the ignition switch,
My 99 Ody with 120K would suddenly switch off and come back while runing, Take it to dealer and report to Honda, Since out of warranty. The dealer would do the repairs estimated at $100 charge to you.

vacuum leak..look to area behind air cleaner to intake .. snorkel area first..spray carb cleaner there after you start it to discover vacuum leak.... this is a guess .. but a good one... check first for hoses off/ leaking intake air sources and let me/us know
