How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? check and clean anything to do with idle air system. Clean throttle bore and around throttle plate. An example of a code, p0506, idle lower than expected, possible issues, pcm--iac--air induction. Could be other issues? good luck

1997 DODGE DAKOTA WILL SOMETIMES START OR STALL

To much difference between 04 and 97. To use an 04 ECM, you need the trucks complete wiring harness. Then you would have to change the transmission also. You better get in line to sue him also..

Wont go into drive or park when putting it into drive it goes in reverse a lot of play on the steering column with shift lever witch is an automatic

Your trouble lies in the steering column. Because the bearings or mounting bolts are so loose. Sometimes it might hit reverse other times it may find another selection. All depends on the position of the column. the shift rod in the column needs to be stable to hit the correct gear.

I have a F250 lariat with a 460 - truck stalls when I put it in gear - even after it runs for 20 min. Sometimes it will stall while I'm driving. I had carborator replaced last year. Hope you can help.

Some possible causes could be:

Vacuum leaks cause an engine to run lean witch can cause the vehicle to stall when put into gear.

Improper base idle adjustment can cause the vehicle to stall when shifted into drive or reverse

A malfunctioning or damaged carburetor can cause the vehicle to stall when shifted into drive or reverse

Improper ignition timing can cause the vehicle to stall when shifted into drive or reverse.

A malfunctioning or damaged transmission or torque converter can cause the vehicle to stall when shifted into drive or reverse

97 Dakota Wont move in reverse

it doesent have to be slipping to go bad.youve lost reverse and it could be the solenoid on the side of the trasnmission but i dont think so since it would affect all the gears
