Are you sure that the key switch isn't sticking?
spray some WD-40 in the key hole and if that doesn't work try removing the electrical part of the key switch and hold the harness and using a screwdriver try starting the car if it still do that I think the starter solenoid is sticking replace it or the complete starter
I hope this helps you

Ok did you try it because if you leave the key in the ignition it should start or at least roll over, and if the starter stay engage I think you have a bad solenoid ok let

Starter motor spindle could be sticking in the out position. Remove the starter motor and clean and lube the spindle so it jumps back in
If this has been happening for a while the starter motor may be damaged from being spun by the engine too long

so it may be better considering the age of your car and assume this is the original starter motor it's done really well, just replace the starter motor.

2006 Saturn Ion I have one that won't crank or start. I put it on an OBD2 and it gave 2 codes 1 something about the turbo sensor and 2 something of the coil sensor or something strange.

Jeff Armer up above in that Additional Information box is our Professional Automotive Technician and will be able to solve your issue.

But just to explain, the OBD2 Codes are the key, 'something about' doesn't cut it. The codes are of the form 'P' and 4 numbers. The codes tell you the EXACT fault and from there you find the solution.

Here is a list of codes

2004 Saturn ion. Car won’t start. Battery seems to be good, cuz all dash lights come on. Car won’t crank.

Does the starter make a noise when you crank it? If not, first make sure you have 12+ volts in the battery and good battery connections. If the battery has less that 9 volts, then replace the battery. Try using a jumper box or a set of jumper cables from another vehicle to start the car. If you can see the starter, have someone strike it with a hammer while turning the key to the crank position. If it starts, replace the starter.

On my Saturn 2003 Ion, the starter makes an extremely loud noise upon turning key in the ignition. The problem is recent and literally sounds like something is going to disengage or break. Otherwise, car...

if noise is only when starting, consider replacing the starter. the mounting bolts could have some loose, or the clutch which disengages the starter gear is not retracting the gear. either situation could cause a loud noise of the starter gear clattering with the ring gear.

2006 Saturn ION2 won't start. Happens every few

This is a very common problem with the Saturn. It's a bad ignition switch. You need to replace it.

Google on common saturn problems and you'll see that hundred of Saturn owners have had this very problem.

It's really amusing how each dealer prances around it and doesn't tell their customers that it's a common problem. If you bring it to them they will know right away what the problem is but they may pretend not to know right away...EVERY Saturn dealer has fixed this on dozens and dozens of their vehicles...
