As the previous answer suggests. Go back and re-check all the connections to the starter. I'm assuming you fitted a new part and not a used one. First check your battery is connected and Fully charged. A starter motor needs a lot of voltage to crank the engine over, (About 9 volts). Did you fit the small wire connector the correct way up? The block connector is usually shaped so it will only go in one way around. Is it seated all the way home? Some connectors 'click' when they are inserted correctly. Is the larger wire from the battery connected correctly and is it a shiney metal connector?
For tightness only the mount bolts to the engine block need to be tight. The large wire should be fitted by hand to finger tight then turned no more than about a quarter turn to take up any slack. Overtightening can break the threaded connector inside the starter breaking the electrical contact it needs.
Check your wiring.
