There is something wrong in the fuel or air supply side. This could be due to various reasons but the most probable one is the improper mixing of air with fuel. So, one has to check the air filter may be it requires cleaning. Next is fuel and air mixer and injector part which of course calls for a mechanic as it might require tuning also.
It sounds like you have a bad MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor). This is in your air inlet tube, pull this out and check to see if there is any corrosion on it. If is one that has a coiled exposed wire, then ensure that the wire is not broke.

the ball bearing will be a non return valve for the accelerator pump. When the pump is moved to suck in fuel from the bowl it lifts of the seat and when the pump is pressed down the force of the fuel closes it off and the fuel is squirted in to the manifold.
