I am unfamiliar with the model but I expect it will be similar to many cars with electrical connection for the fuel gauge sensor and the fuel pump and flow and return fuel lines.
By 1996 fuel line connections made with short lengths of fuel hose secured with hose clips were being replaced by push on/quick release connectors sealing with an internal O ring. If the fuel lines are steel there will still be short lengths of hose used but if the fuel lines are nylon the quick release unions are fitted directly into them.
Some quick release connectors are difficult to disconnect without either the special pliers or more hands than there is access for.
Cleanliness is important before disconnecting and absolute cleanliness before reconnecting is essential with a spray of silicone or similar on the spigot before pushing the connector fully home until it clicks into place.

Below are the proper steps to removing your vehicle's fuel tank..
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Relieve the fuel pressure
Remove the rear seat cushion.
Remove the plastic grommet from the floor pan.
Detach the fuel pump
electrical harness.
Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump by compressing the tabs on both sides of each nylon push connect fitting and easing the fuel line off of the fuel pump.
Raise and safely support the vehicle securely on jackstands.
Remove the muffler mount.
Remove the heat shields.
Remove the fuel tank cover.
Remove the drain plug and drain the gasoline into a approved container.
Disconnect the fuel lines and remove the fuel filter and base.
Loosen the fuel tank filler pipe clamp at the fuel tank.
Support the fuel tank using a hydraulic jack and a block of wood or other suitable device.
Remove the two fuel tank support strap bolts and position the straps out of the way.
Partially lower the fuel tank to access the fuel tank filler pipe vent tube and disconnect the vent tube and filler pipe from the tank.
Disconnect the fuel vapor tube from the tank.
Lower the tank from the vehicle.
Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

Probably best to replace that too as having new items means that in the long run you have security in knowing what parts are new. May be a poor seal around the plastic bit, but also check the clips you are using are tight enough, possibly buy some new if loose

I solved a similar problem with a Nissan. Under rear seat is a plate. Remove plate and you find the plastic delivery and return pipes with clip on connectors. Ideally you buy and replace there connectors but here in Africa they were not available. I simply cut off the pipe as close to the connector as possible. Then heated the end in boiling water and pressed it over the connector male side. It cools and shrinks and never leaked since. If I had a hose clamp, I would have added that for extra security because the delivery pipe is under high pressure from the electric pump in the tank( fuel injection models) most Japanese cars have very similar configurations and this plan can generally be made to worl
Many Acura models are equipped with a theft deterrent audio system. Make sure you have the necessary code before disconnecting the battery.
On 2.2L and 3.0L engines you may have to remove the engine wire harness bracket and power steering feed hose clamp.
A through cleaning of the high pressure hoses is recommended before installation.
To install:
On 2.2L and 3.0L engines you may have to reconnect the engine wire harness bracket and power steering feed hose clamp.
