Has vehicle been in a minor accident or made a sudden stop. It may need the inertia switch reset or may not have enough oil in the engine which could also stop the fuel pump from working.

Rav4 intermittant hard pedal

If the ABS system were the problem, the ABS warning light should come on.
So I would say the problem is with the vac booster. The booster is between the pedal and the master cylinder. It uses vac to boost the pressure applied to the master cylinder by your foot.
You may have to leave the vehicle with a mechanic to drive until the problem occurs.

I have a 1999 toyota camry 4 cylinder with the check engine light code of p0401 and i replaced the EGR valve and still have a problem, what else may it be?

there is also a vac. switching valve for the egr that also goes bad.to find the valve follow the vac. line that is hooked to the top of the egr to the valve.it is located on the back of the motor up under the intake and is a pain to replace. if you have a hand held vac. pump hook it to the egr valve and pump it up and see if the engine dies if it does i would replace the vac. switching valve.if it does not die then i would start looking for carbon on the inside of the intake on the back side of the throttle body plate.and also carbon will build up at the intake where the egr bolts to it...before i messed with the vac. switch i would look inside of the throttle body behind the throttle plate and see if the passage that goes to the egr valve is stopped up with carbon and you will need a small round mirrow and a flashlight....if the car does not die when you do the vac. pump test it is easier to take the throttle body off to clean and to check....been working on toyota and lexus for 25 yrs and have seen it all so let me know if i can help in any other way..........good luck and if i did my job let me and fixya know and a thumbs up............thanks.......

A sudden stop of my car santamo model 1996 due to no fuel to the gasoline engine

look for the fuel cut out switch, normally on these under the hood, or fuel pump , or relay failure, if you stopped suddenly or hit a bump then the cut out, if thats not it find the relays and pull out and put back in in case of a bad connection, then work back, if you switch on the ign you should hear the pump make a noise if its working

1993 E-350 Fuel pump not powering up.

1994 econoline fuel system electrical

Vehicle Application Escort/Tracer, Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis, Thunderbird/Cougar, Town Car, 5.0L Mustang, Aerostar, Ranger, Explorer, E-Series and Bronco.
  1. The electrical circuit of the Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch may vary per engine/vehicle application.
  2. Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch with fuel reset light (F-Series and Bronco).
  3. Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch with fuel reset light (Town Car).

Fuel Pump Circuit Operation When the ignition is switched to the ON position, it turns the EEC Power Relay on. The EEC Power Relay provides power to the EEC-IV processor and the control side of the fuel pump relay. Power for the fuel pump is supplied through a fuse link or high current fuse attached to the starter solenoid (battery side). From the fuse link or high current fuse, current flow is through the fuel pump relay and Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch to the fuel pump. The IFS switch is a safety device used to shut off the fuel pump in the event of a collision. If the IFS switch is "tripped," it must be reset by depressing the white or red button on the top of the switch. The fuel pump relay is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the fuel pump will operate. If the ignition switch is not turned to the START position, the PCM will shut the fuel pump off after approximately one second. The PCM will operate the fuel pump when the ignition is in the START position to provide fuel while cranking.
After the engine starts, the PCM will continue to operate the fuel pump unless the engine stops, engine speed drops below 120 rpm, or the IFS switch is "tripped."

System Diagnosis Note: Grounding the FP lead at the DLC will allow the pump to run continuously with the ignition switch on.

96 cruise control issue

vacumn pressure for your cruise control will be 14.2. Connect a test hand held vacumn pump to control modual and then drive the car to see if cruise control works in any way. Plus, when pumping vacumn to madual, check to see if throttle linkage moves.
