My golf 1 wen i remove the key from the ignition the radio n accessories don't go off like it should

If you have a factory radio, you might be able to threw the radio. Get to the menu and personalization part. If not, you can remove the key in switch on top of the lockset, in the steering column. Small white switch on top.

You can't disconnect the chime, it goes thru the radio and is generated by the Body Control Module (BCM).

Maybe the ignition switch burned up. A lot of juice travels through them and it has happened.
What is confusing is, lights will work without the switch. You should be able to turn lights on without the key in the ignition. But a radio normally needs the ignition turned to ACC (accessory) or ON. And some when left on don't turn off with the key off until the door is opened.

Possibly the ignition melted and is affected to where the radio still gets power as if it was in the ACC position

same problem happens with the vw golf.,only the golf wiring loom from the engine to the cab snags and causes a short in the system also check for a bad earth on the battery as this will cause the same problem.,adrian

Hi,the chime is triggered by the ignition and door switch a easy way to test the ignition is if ignition is on and radio on and key is turned of and key is removed from ignition the radio must go of by it self if not ignition is faulty or have dirt inside so clean out with some cleaning spray.if problem is in door the interior lights will not work like it must with opening and closing of door.hope this helps.Conraad

Check and make sure the ignition switch is not worn out and allowing you to remove the key when the switch is turned backwards in teh accessory position. once the key is removed and the radio is staying on, turn the ignition without the key in it, both directions and see if it shuts off, if it does, menas work cylinder or key.

Ive got the radio problem, having to remove the radio fuse each time I get out of the car - its the blue 15amp on the top row of the fuse board. As for fixing it, heard its either down to the radio switch or diode? Taking mine to garage though.

This system can be scanned for faults, you need that scan done to see what is wrong in the electronics, this takes a dealer level scan tool.
