"The Camshaft position sensor detects the position of the camshafts and relays the information to the PCM. ... Bank 1 is the side of the engine that contains cylinder #1, the "B" sensor is most likely the exhaust camshaft side."

SOURCE: camshaft position sensor location

At the right rear of the engine under the intake manifold and to the left of the oil filter. You will probably need to go under the car to spot it, it's the sensor with a three-wire connector arranged vertically. But you can take it out from above. It's held in with a single bolt with an eight MM head located just above the sensor. Un-clip and remove the electrical connector. Unscrew the bolt with a socket wrench & extension bar. Wiggle and pull the sensor out.

SOURCE: location of the bank 1 sensor 2 O2 sensor on a 2001 ford escape

B1 means the sensor is located on the same bank of the engine that has the #1 cylinder. B2 is located on the opposite bank.
S1 means the sensor is located BEFORE the catalytic converter
S2 means the sensor is located AFTER the catalytic converter

You didn't say which engine you have, so I've included the diagrams of both 4 cyl and 6 cyl so you can see the banks

It is the one that is on the driver's side, first one in the exhaust stream before the catalytic converter.

I didn't look up you stats on your Ford as you did not provide an engine size, but for precise location, you can look it up at autozone in their repair guides. Just register, login and "find the info."

I need to replace the bank 1 sensor 1 on a 97 ford explorer. I have found the bank 2 sensor 2, but I can't find the bank 1, sensor 1. Is there anywhere to find a diagram or can it's location be described...

Thanks for trying fixya,

There are 4 sensors, though not all of them are technically called "oxygen sensors. There are two that are upstream of the catalytic converters, one on each bank. Then, there are two more, one after each catalytic converter, that are oxygen sensors, but officially they are called catalyst monitors, because that is the job they are assigned to do.

Bank One would be the left catalytic - trace to left manifold and bank the other.
