SOURCE: Neither of my Fobs will work the remote locks

Hi,

I know you said you reprogrammed the fobs but I am not sure what process you used for this so firstly please check that you used the following procedure to resynchronise the fobs to the vehicle.

1) Stand close to the vehicle.
2) Simultaneously press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter for at least seven seconds.
3) The door locks should cycle to confirm synchronization.

If not there is a problem with either a disturbed connection to the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver or the receiver itself is faulty.

Given that you recently had work performed under the dash - if the resynchronisation does not work as a first measure, I must say I am highly suspicious that your mechanic has disturbed a connection in the process of replacing the AC coil. Even though he says he checked again!

The receiver is awkward to get to and is right in behind the dash. I have included the following diagram to illustrate what it looks like and an idea of where it is. It is highlighted with an orange arrow on the diagram.

Hope this helps. Please do leave a vote for the solution.

Key fob is not switching off alarm or lockin the vehicle, Mitsubishi Shogan Sport 2003, I have changed battery in the fob

  • Check your remote to see whether it is held together by a small Philips-head screw. If so, remove it. Look at the join seam that runs along the middle of your remote. Search for a small indentation in which your miniature flathead screwdriver can be inserted. If not, use the seam itself, and gently pry it apart with your flathead screwdriver.
  • Spray the inside of the remote with canned air to remove any debris. Remove the battery, and dispose of it unless it is relatively new. It should be replaced when you re-assemble the fob.
  • Remove the button pad from the top of the remote, and using the alcohol with cotton swabs, clean around the buttons and the plastic frame it fits in to make sure it's clean. Lay it aside for it to dry.
  • Remove the remote's interior circuit board. Generally, the problem with remotes is that the contacts have worn thin and have ceased to make a proper electrical contact with the rest of the remote. These contacts are usually gold in color. Clean these with the cotton swabs and alcohol. Reassemble your fob, and check to see whether it works.
  • Reopen the fob if the clean contacts did not make a difference. To rebuild the contact surface, do one of several things: First, use a tiny bit of metallic paint applied gingerly with a paint brush or build up the contact surface by rubbing it with a pencil. Another solution is to use conductive coating, which is available at electronic shops. Let it dry 12 hours before re-assembling the fob and checking to see if it works.

  • Replace your battery, and close your key fob by pressing the two halves back together. It should click back into place. Replace any screws removed upon disassembly.

Hi, the key fob has contacts on a circuit board, much like a remote control for a tv, or a calculator. These contacts are what the buttons touch, to make it work. the buttons, or contacts may be dirty, with a carbon film on them causing the two buttons not to work, leaving only 1 functional. If you take it apart, much like putting a new battery in, you can actually pop out the green circuit board, and see the contacts. These can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Try cleaning the contacts, and the back side of the buttons. A re program is not in order, because you have 1 function, and will either work as a whole, or none at all. If cleaning does not work, You may need a new fob. Good luck...coop442000
