SOURCE: automatic transmission wont catch into any gear

You sould have been moore frequent on your transmission fluid changes, and you shouldn't have taken it to Jiffy Lube either. Your best bet is to drain and fill the trans fluid run it shift gears. Drain and fill again. Do this 3 times. Yeah the transmission fluid is expensive. on the last drain and fill you want to get a bottle of LUBE GUARD from NAPA or who ever sells it. put the whole 10oz bottle in. Shift Rev, 1, 2, 3, D. Neutral Rev D. If that don't work then you have bad seals.

SOURCE: hyundai excel 1996 automatic will engage reverse

It appears you have a Forward Clutch FAILURE. Replace the trans after you get it diagnosed and verified by a professional technician. By the way, do you have a Check Engine light? If so, what is the diagnostic code? The dealership can scan the system and find any codes which may have been stored in the TCM (Transmission Control Module). If there were any 'Incorrect Gear Ratio" codes, it's most probably the trans itself.

P0734 - 4th gear incorrect ratio. P1529 Malfunction Indicator Lamp Request. Problem is in the transmission.
Take/Tow your vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealership and pay the diagnostic fee... they will tell you exactly what the problem is and the cost of parts/labor to fix it... at least this way you'll know what the problem is and what's required to fix it.

If I understand you correctly, you have ALL forward gears working, but reverse doesn't?... then the problem is in the transmission itself or the linkage on the trans linkage into reverse.

Will not go into first gear when going down the gears

I will answer this as if it is a manual gear box as the solution will be different for an automatic.
First gear has a syncro ring energise spring that when pushed against the syncro cone in the gear spins the gear to the relevant shaft speed so that engagement is smooth. Because of the vast difference of the shaft speeds when engaging 1st gear the energising doesn't get a chance to work and so the gears refuse to mesh. To possible ways to get around this is to keep the road speed low say around 10mph or less or increase the engine rpm up to around 3500-4000rpm before trying to engage 1st gear. Basically the syncro is for engaging the gear as you are coming to a stop or going very slow . Check the drain plug magnet for metal as the clutch shaft bearing may be moving forward and preventing the engagement properly.

Reverse stop plate problem?

IN the selector rails in the top section of the box there is a spring loaded de-dent ball that come into play when the lever is placed or pushed towards reverse. To select reverse you have to overcome this spring so that the selector rail can be moved. IF you can get a look at the top section of the box you may see a plug that is screwed in and facing the gear selector lever min the reverse position. If you can unscrew this plug there should be a spring and then a plunger of ball. I suspect that the spring may be broken or the plunger is stuck. If you can get to the gear lever pivot and remove it you will see the plunger that I am talking about . It should be in the removable top section

How do I check transmission fluid levels on a tuscon

if its an automatic .there will be a dip stick near the front of the engine i think its got an orange ring pull if its a Manuel there is a hex bolt on the side of the gear box \[big enough to add fluid through a tube if you open it and clean fluid run out .then its enough .but if you open it and dirty fluid runs out then it requires changing .dont over fill .this will do more harm than good .its best to let a garage do it { a quick fit type place will do it for about 30 pounds }
