SOURCE: Refilling transmission fluid - manual 5-speed.

dextron mercron 3, automatic transmission fluid. Mostly standard on fords and others for both auto and manual trans. Underneath the air intake pipe, at the rear right hand side there is a 4 prong plug for the speed sensor. Its electronic so there wont be any cable, its a round sensor with a horizontal plug on the end of it. Take a flat head screwdriver and pry the 2 holding prongs off the wiring harnes. then get a #10 socket 1/4in drive with exstinsions works best take out the bolt going right with the rachet. once you get it out just pull and twist the sensor out. It seems to be easier with a hose at the end of the funnel to pour the fluid in. stick the hose where the speed sensor was. once its full just assemble it back the way it was.

SOURCE: 2001 Dodge Stratus Transmission Problem

COULD BE LOSS OF ALL TRASMISSION FLUID, BROKEN HOSE, BLOWN PUMP,BURNT TRANSMISSION RINGS( HOW DID THE TRANNY OIL SMELL?) BURNT TRANNY FLUID OR A COMBINATION OF ANY OF THE ABOVE. IF IT JUST QUIT, YOU PROBABLY HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT WILL REQUIRE A REBUILD OR A SALVAGE TRANSMISSION FROM A LOCAL WRECKING YARD. THE LATTER BEING THE CHEAPEST AND AT TIMES THE BETTER DEAL ALL AROUND, TIME WISE AND MONEY. VERSUS A REBUILD THAT REQUIRES NEW PARTS, BANDS, PUMP, SEALS AND ON AND ON PLUS HOURS OF LABOR TO FIX EQUALS ONE BIG BIG BILL!BEING A 2001 A TRANNY FROM A WRECKING YARD ISN'T GOING TO HAVE THAT MANY MILES ON IT EITHER SO YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIND SOME PRETTY DECENT ONES. THAT'S THE ROUTE I'D GO, BUT YOU'RE FREE TO CHOOSE EITHER CHOICE. I DON'T ENDORSE OR CONDEMN EITHER ONE, JUST POINT OUT THE GOOG AND THE WEAK IN EACH FOR YOU TO DECIDE! GOOD LUCK! SOURCE: transmission input speed sensor location

It is located on the front of the transmission. you will see 2 of them one on the left under small transmission lines it is the input then to the right behind the radiator overflow there is the other one. Easiest way to change them is with a 1" deep well socket

SOURCE: How to fill manual transmission fluid on dodge neon 5 speed?

It will be on the side of the transmission just above the halfway point. The plug is usually black or green. You will need to dip your finger in to feel the level the fluid is at. It should be just below the lip of the plug.

SOURCE: I am trying to fill my transmission fluid on a

A 5-speed Nissan Pathfinder uses a different type of transmission fluid from an automatic; therefore Dexron II is NOT okay. This vehicle uses "gear oil" --- specifically 75W-90 GL-4 if you have low mileage. 80W-90 or 85W-140 can be used if you are up there in mileage (closing in on 200K?).

This type of service needs to be performed from underneath the vehicle.

If you have a set of ramps, now would be a good time to get them out of the tool shed. Exercise care in driving up the ramps as they can be tricky with stick shift vehicles. Once on the ramp, put wheel chocks on the rear wheels, put the e-brake on, and if possible, keep it in gear (I use reverse).

Even without ramps, there is sufficient ground clearance from this SUV for you to check your transmission fluid. But then again, the more working room, the better.

On the transmission housing, you will find two plugs. One is at the bottom (drain plug), and one is higher up on the driver's side (fill plug). If you wish to add gear oil, simply open up the fill plug on the upper driver's side. If gear oil starts to seep out, don't bother adding any --- it's full. If no fluid comes out, stick your pinky in the hole and try to reach down and see if you can touch the top of the fluid level. Top it up, then. Gear oil usually comes in quart containers that have a long, pointed tip that allows you to "squirt" the stuff into the fill hole. Convenient, no? If the fluid level is so low that you can't even touch it, you might want to consider draining what's left (why add new gear oil to old sludgy gear oil? Otherwise, fill it up until it starts to seep out of the hole; then screw the fill plug back in.

I hope this helps; take care of your SUV.

Good Evening, I have a dumb question. have you cleared any current or history codes in the transmission? They will default with codes in the system. Also make note on what they are. If any and we can go from there, and yes tcm would be the next place to go but more info is best as far as codes and such.
