If it is a single overhead can 4.6 liter v8 the intake manifold is notorious for leaking on that model of ford engine I just replaced one on a friends explorer the seal on the intake manifold deteriorates causing the leak and replacement of the manifold is the only solution! Good luck!
the iac code has nothing to do with the maf . the maf is your mass air flow sensor and it is in the air tube going to the throttle body. the iac is your idle air control valve that is in the throttle body next to the throttle position sensor
The V6 and V8 models are mounted on the side of the throttle body. They don't turn on, its an electric motor that opens and closes a valve to regulate the air into the throttle body.
try disconecting the battery for about 40min and leave the key in the on position while its disconected, turn off the key and reconnect the battery this will reset the ecu and may help your problem good luck and please rate
Go to a auto supply house and purchase a GOOD service manual such as Haynes, etc.... And it will walk you through servicing your vehicle step by step, what you need to purchase and the correct tools to use, I found it is wise to check the book in the parking lot before you Leave to be sure there are no additional supplies that I would have to make another trip for. If you are in doubt take your vehicle to an authorized FORD Mechanic for repair/replacement. If I can help further please let me know.
I hope that this advice helps you tremendously and please do not forget to rate/vote or place a testimonial to my advice.
The Idle air control valve (IAC) is on the back of the throttle body housing on the 4.6 V8, it's half the size of a can of Red Bull. Try tapping on it with a small hammer and if the truck clears up then it's time to replace the IAC.
You can clean it with Throttle body injector but that's just a quick fix for now. Good luck and hope this helps.
