Problem is probably the key recognition module below the ignition switch. You will need the service manual to fix this.

SOURCE: Car will not unlock.

To get inside the car .... Use the key in the lock cylinder, unlock the drivers door to get inside. You shouldn't have to reprogram the fob unless it or the keyless module was changed. There may be a blown fuse that supplies the keyless control module (check the owners manual for location). or wires that lead into the Drivers door may be damaged ... The keyless module is located inside the drivers door at the bottom behind the door panel ... do the unlock/lock and trunk release switches on the inside of the drivers door operate the locks and or trunk release? If so it is not the fuse ... and not the wires to it ... And it could be your BCM body control module, located in the dash board to right of your gas petal. Because the number entry keypad (code for that is on the inside of the right passenger trunk bracket arm) also doesn't work I assume it's not the key fobs themselves. Your 98 manual is correct for your car.

SOURCE: 1999 porsche 996 replaced key fob battery

Assuming the car battery is ok (if not, buy a male to male cigarette lighter at the auto store and connect to another car until charged enough to unlock the doors...but don't try to crank the ignition!). The trunks won't open if the battery went dead with the alarm set because arming the alarm physically locks the releases.

Sounds like the key code is switched off because you replaced the key fob battery. Try unlocking the car manual with the key in the door lock. Then switch the ignition on to reactive the keyless entry. If this does not work, you might also try pressing the fob unlock button with the key in the door lock until the dash led flashes.

SOURCE: 08 dodge ram key FOB reprogramming

ATTENTION: You MUST HAVE one working remote to add one more to the system. If you do not have one working remote right now then these instructions will not work. You will have to have a Locksmith or dealership use a computer to program the first remote for you.

Click here to find a Locksmith in your area to program this remote.
1. Enter your vehicle and close all doors.

2. Fasten your seat belt ( fastening the seat belt will cancel any chiming that may
confuse you during this programming procedure.)

3. Place key into the ignition.

4. Turn the ignition to the ON position ( DO NOT START THE ENGINE )

5. Press and hold the UNLOCK button on a working remote.

6. Continue to hold the UNLOCK button, wait at least 4 seconds, but no longer than
10 seconds, then press and hold PANIC button.

7. When a single chime is heard, release both buttons. The chime indicates the system
is in program mode.

8. Press and release both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons, simultaneoulsly on the remote
to be programmed.

9. A single chime will be heard. The chime indicates the the remote was recognized.

10. Within 4 seconds of hearing the chime, press and release any button on the remote
being programmed.

11. A single chime will be heard The chime indicates the remote has been programmed.

12. Repeat steps 8 to 11 for a total of 4 remotes.

13. Turn the ignition to the OFF position or wait 60 seconds to exit program mode.

2005 Saab 9-3 Convertible randomly unlocks (mostly the trunk) with horn beeps. Key fob will not lock/unlock car (battery replaced). These might be separate issues.

If this only happens when the key fob is close enough for the car to "hear" the signals transmitted from it then chances are the fob is failing. The FOB will have to be taken apart, cleaned and inspected for contamination/corrosion/stress cracks.
If the car does this on it's own even when the FOB has no battery or is too far away to be heard, then the problem could be internal on the TWICE (Theft Warning Module) or a power lock switch.
Since you said the horn beeps I would say it is most likely a FOB inadvertently transmitting signals even when you're not pushing buttons. Repair or replace the fob and you should be okay.

Mustang alarm

Ford sold a Ford branded alarm through the parts department. These sometimes were a dealer installed option on new cars. Mine would randomly stop responding to the remote and I would have the same symptoms as you describe. I had it removed and the original equipment factory system still worked. Be warned, if you have the Ford "accessory" alarm, your key fobs (remotes) are different and the method to program them is different from what you will read online. You can tell if you have the system by looking at your key fob. The standard Mustang key fob is a 4 button (lock, unlock, panic, and trunk). The accessory alarm uses a 3 button remote and clicking unlock twice would pop the trunk. I really wish I had a picture of the remote because there are 3 button Ford key fobs for cars without a trunk release although I don't think you should have one on a Mustang. Long story short, if you have the accessory alarm, you can solve your problem by having it removed but you will need new 4 button key fobs to remotely lock/unlock your doors

Trunk release wnen key, remote and button are inoperative

The fob is probably dead, needs a battery...if your doors dont lock with fob that would confirm this, and I believe there is also a fuse for the door button...will work when car on but not when off is a blown fuse I think.

Wireless Key Remote door & trunk opener won't work with trunk anymore

When you press the trunk open button, do you hear any "release" noise come from the trunk area? The issue may be a bad battery in the key fob OR there could be an issue with the transmitter located inside the vehicle. Do the doors lock and unlock properly? is the vehicle equipped with security or immobilizer? please advise

Having problem with the beeper for my honda pilot 2004 its not the bateries can't open the dors with beeper..

In the case the battery was drained in the keyfob - try reprogramming it.
Here are the instructions.

The process is pretty easy....1st) get in the vehicle and close all doors, windows, hood, and trunk.
2nd)put the key in the ignition and turn it to the second position...while in that position (w/out starting) push the lock button on the good key fob you already have. (if you don't already have a good fob, then press the lock button on the new key fob) (do this all w/in 5 seconds)
3rd)turn the key off
4th) turn the key on to the second position and press the lock button on the fob.
5th) turn the key off
6th) turn the key on to the second position and press the lock button on the fob.
7th) turn the key off.
8th) turn the key on to the second position and press the lock button the the fob.....the press the unlock button on the fob..........Now press the lock button on the new fob...press the unlock button on the new fob....
9th) tun the key off.....remove the key from the ignition and test to make sure that the new fob and the old fobs both work now.

But a used 2006 solara but key fob does not remotely open trunk. Any suggestions?

Yes, insure that you have power to the trunk lock inside trunk, If not could be lose/broken wire or shot fuse. I am sure the key fob does work for the doors? If not have key fob battery replaced. Also, a quick check on power to trunk lock, check to see if have remote power button inside car, if it works power is good. Defective key fob would then be indicated.

Key fob lights up but doesn't work even with a new battery

I'm more familiar with Range Rovers and Saab's when it comes to key fobs but if you changed the battery you have to re-program the key fob. If you do not have an owner's manual that can take you through the steps you might want to try: push and hold the lock button on the key fob, put it in the driver's side door and turn to lock. With the button still depressed turn back to open, remove the key and release the button. If this doesn't work check any and all fuses associated with your system and last but not least you could take it to a dealer. Good luck!
