2002 Pontiac Grand Am key goes into ignition but will not turn. The steering wheel is not locked & I can start car with the automatic car starter but cannot turn the key.

Ok the most common problem with this situation is the tumblers in the lock came apart. you will ned to either replace the lock or have a repair shop replace it. The parts are not all that expensive, but the job is a bit dificult for a beginner. Cause?? well use is one cause if the car has a ton of miles on it and the ignition switch has be used a lot that could have caused the tumblers to fail. another common reason is a heavy key chain pulling down on the lock cylinder. The third cause is... it just happened. I have seen brand new cars with less than 3k miles on them come in with the same problem.

Ok to swum it up.. replace the lock cylinder, dealer or a lock smith can key it the same as your curent key. you can most likly purchase the parts from NAPA or other parts houses. You will need to gather a detailed instructions if you plan to do it yourself as there is not enough room or time to spell out the entire procedure here. If you do not have the tools and dont think you will do a few more of these repairs then it is most likly less expensive to have a reputable repair shop do the work. Good luck

I have a 2002 mercedes s430 and the key wont turn in the ignition. alredy replaced car battery, still nothing

take out a small loan and go to a dealer and ask them to sell you a properly keyed lock cylinder for your car, costs about 50 bucks in a normal car who knows in one of those. then have a look on youtube and see if you cannot watch someone replacing a lock cylinder in any mercedes, all are most likely pretty similar. then decide if you want to try it yourself or pay a dealer. you drive an expensive car and you are supposed to spend money on it.

MY PT Cruiser Functional transmitter and the one to be programmed both have no "PANIC" Button . How I programme the spare Fob

If you don't have the Panic button then sorry, you can't program yourself, the dealer will have to program it to the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) module in the vehicle, using their DRB scan tool.

How do i programme a new remote fob for my 98 R Freelander

Programming a new Key
Replacing a missing master key is quite expensive from Land Rover, try not to get sucked into the extra cost of "Dealer coding" You can do this yourself in 2 minutes by following the simple process below.
1) Get in and close all doors. Turn ignition on and off quickly and remove the key (all within about 5 seconds).

2) Within 30 seconds of turning the ignition off, while holding down the "unlock" button, press the "lock" button three times. Release the "unlock" button. (You may or may not get the confirmation from the door locks.) Holding the key at your head level provides best results as the key sensor is in the side window pillar.

3) Repeat for each key you want to initialize within 30 seconds after the last one you initialized (if you have more).

4) Right after doing the last key, quickly put the key back in the ignition and turn it on/off again to finalize.

Need one replacement key and remote

You'll find the prices on eBay very reasonable for key blanks & remote units. If you have the transponder key, you'll still save money buying the key elsewhere & having it programmed at your dealer.

I use eBay often & looked this up for you:

Keyless Remote: item # 320484718788 24.99 + 7.48 S&H w/programming instructions.

Ignition Key: Item # 250577989265 9.95 + 4.95 S&H see this one for detailed programming information.

Of course there are many other places to buy the keys & the remotes, I just like the buyer guarantee from PayPal.

good luck.

With my key in the ignition, the key won't turn over, what's the problem ?

The antitheft device on the ignition switch is locked. Does the steering wheel rotate freely with the key in?
Sometimes you have to wiggle the steering wheel to free the key lock.
There is a remote possibilty that the ignition switch broke, and the only solution would be to take it apart and fix it or replace it, a job best performed at the dealer.

Cae was stolen and recovered. they broke the ignition. how do I replace the steering column Is it necessary to replace the entire column?

Hi,

I am sure this would work by just replacing the ignition switch, not the entire steering column.

However it also depends on how bad was it broken.

Please let us know for future assistance.

Pass lockm system

To reset the pass lock system, turn key on for five minuets, then shut key off for five minuets. then restart normally. If the system resets for no reason you need to replace the anti theft module.

Oh leave the key's in the ignition switch when turning the key to the off position. I know that to replace the ignition lock and key at the dealer will be expensive. Your S10 is 9 years old and if you can find a lock smith who knows how to by pass the wire harness in the steering colum have him do that so you'll never have this problem again.
If you want to know how to by pass it your self, i'll send you an e mail on how to do it. Just can't post it here, never know who's reading eh.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Reseting golf 4 2001 remote

Unfortunately you will probably be making a trip to the VW dealer so they can reprogram the remote(s). This is also likely to be expensive so be prepared. I asked around and so far no one knows anyone else that can reprogram factory VW alarm remotes. If, for some reason, you have an after market alarm, your local stereo shop should be able to help you out for a few bucks.
