Vehicle: 2000 Dodge Ram 1500, 5.9L, Automatic Transmission, 171,000 miles. Vehicle will stop running, just shut off, after about 10 minutes of driving. Then after 5 minutes of waiting it will start again then run for another 10 minutes and shut off again. This will occur for about 4 times then it will run fine after that. Then when the vehicle completely cools off the cycle will start again. When the vehicle shut off, the gas, temp, alternator and oil pressure guages will stop working. I know the vehicle is ready to start again when these gauges start back working.

The first suspect is the igniton switch. when this happens, take the ign key and just barlely turn it, either way, not enough to go off/on just a little tweak, it the lights come back on or flicker, that ign switch will need replacement.

Problem with transmission. I am going to try to be VERY specific so you can help me with the best possible scenario. The truck has 232,000 miles. It has not been worked on very much. It has pulled a...

Cheapest scenario is to change the transmission filter. That is if it is an automatic. When you do this, most transmissions have a magnet in the transmission pan. If yours has one I would check it for excessive metal shavings or worse metal chunks.

Dodge won't move after being stopped

Did it rev up when you stepped on the gas? If it did, but went nowhere, you might want to check the transmission fluid in the vehicle. The truck needs to be warmed up to normal operating temp and on a level surface when checking the transmission fluid. If it needs some, add 1 qt at a time until you get it to the correct level. Now, if it's fine and at the right level, you may need to take the truck in for a transmission check. By the way, take it to someone trustworthy that won't poke your eyes out or try to sell you something that you don't need.

My 2001 dodge ram 1500 with 5.2L sometimes slips in overdrive. what could be causing it

Assuming its an automatic. Check the Transmission fluid first and foremost. Follow the instructions on the dip stick. If the fluid turns out alright then sorry to say but the clutch plates inside the transmission are going out. Transmission fluid could smell burnt. I had a 2000 ram and at 82000 miles thats when it started doing the same thing. I drove it til it wouldn't move forward or back.

2004 Dodge 2500 diesel, manual trans. noise/whistle

If your certain the noise is from the transmission, you need to take this vehicle to a shop you trust. It sounds as though the fluid pump in the transmission is either starving for fluid, due to a blocked strainer, or the pump is suffering a bearing failure. If you continue to run this vehicle, you stand the chance of stranding yourself, or burning the clutches from a lack of fluid. Good Luck.

Engine will not turn over. Gearshift operates freely as if something has loosened.

The mechanic located the problem: A linkage in the steering column had worn out, which disabled the electronic connection from the key to the starter. Although it was much costlier to do so, I chose to purchase a new rather than a used steering column as I intend to keep the vehicle.
