As Robert said the TFI was notorious on these era of Ford's Ford failure . I've owned several and replaced all the TFI modules on them . Do you have another vehicle you can borrow the module from ?

Both answers are pointing you in the right direction , but first check these things ,yes distributor rotation is there but how worn is the cap and rotor the air gap between those spark wire towers inside and the rotor may be to far apart ,so the spark can't make it to the wires and plugs this is the cheapest to do but look at them first if you see a lot of build up on them chances are this is the problem you can check the coil and connector by removing the cap with the coil wire attached and check for voltage with a meter this will confirm that power is coming to the rotor through the cap then look at the rotor contacts the top tab should be in real good shape and the side one should not be blackened or pitted if you see anything other than clean and smoothe metal surfaces on it or the cap tower contacts this is it please check these first before you do anything the air gap is measured in thousands of an inch and will wear down especially if you don't remember when the last time you did a complete tune up not just changing the spark plugs you must eliminate the easiest and cheapest cost first tfi modules are expensive but this may be that I'm trying to give you all the possibilities along with Roberts X2 which are great answers ok good luck stephen

The spade terminals inside of the clip that attaches to the ignition coil wear from vibration.
Confirm if the coil is seeing power and switches ground pulses.

any wires not plugged into there respective places, any sensors the old engine had that this one don't, did you use the old distributor for your coil setup,I think it might be, luck
