On the 302 engines the distributor is located on the front of the engine behind the air filter housing.

This You-tube video is on a 93 Astro Van but is the same as your 91 Chev.

for a proper tune up spark plugs wires distrubutor cap and rotor oil and oil filet air cleaner

There's a fuse for the igntion, if it's blown it would cut power to the coil, check to see if the coil is firing by putting the coil wire [ make sure the ciol wire is good, they are known to fail ] close to a grounded part of the car. if it's working, then it may be a bad rotor, if not it may be the coil.


It would be good to list what the vehicle is.

The firing order is ( 1 - 3 - 7 - 2 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 8 )

The distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE

The marked # 1 position on the distrubutor cap faces to the REAR and slightly towards the drivers side

The engine cylinders / spark plug locations are numbered :

If someone has altered the disstributer, pull #1 plug, put finger over hole, turn engine over until compression on that cyl, line up timing marks (ball park only) and rotor will be pointing at the correct terminal for #1 cylinder plug wire connection, in the cap.

Remove the allen bolts outside,next use a pick to remove the next one.It will be held tight by the grease behind it.Next one i believe use a screwdriver and turn it counter clockwise,should have two notches on the sides of the washer/screw.Should be able to slide off bearings after that.

On the distrubutor cap looking from front no 1 is around the 1 o'clock postion(usually marked on the cap with no. 1) the firing order is 13726548 counter clockwise.
cylinders are passenger side front to rear 1234 and drivers side 5678

most likely its your pickup inside the distributor.
