Timing chain noise 2005 cavalier 2.2 ecotec

The timing chain on my 2005 cavalier 2.2 ecotec is ratteling against a guide. Does it just need a timing chain set or are the camshafts going to need to be replaced?Or is something else causing it all together?

Just the guide is probably making the noise. So either a new guide or a new chain. I would start with guide first, unless chain looks loose or cruddy

There is also a timing chain tensioner on the back side of the engine against the firewall, above the water pump

Its a large socket to get it out, i want to say like 1 1/4" but i may be wrong

It may be possible to change that though and be ok unless the chain is worn too much

2005 ford focus c-max 16V Zetec-S SHDC L4 belt or chain ?

there are 2 engines 2.0 / 2.3 and they both have chains if you are getting a rattling sound from the cover front the guides are worn or the chain tensioner are worn the guides have nylon chain runners on them and if they wear down the chain is rubbing against the metal arm that the nylon is mounted on if this is a high mileage motor I would suspect this because the chain can not be kept tight because of the worn guides have now caused the chain to be slack and its rubbing against the front engine cover but you must be sure before opening it up that its not the water pump or belt tensioner pulleys making the noise if that's what your hearing the water pump will sound like a marble tumbling around in a can the pulley's will sound like constant friction grinding of the dry bearing inside against the bearing race there also may be a chirping sound of the belt being made from it grabbing each time the bearing catches inside and releases the chain will sound like a constant rattling as if you drag a metal chain on a ceramic tile floor and engine running condition will be rough idling and missing a bit especially when you come to an abrupt stop it may stall

Does a 2003 cavalier have timing belt or chain?

Most overhead valve engines have a belt. You need to get your engine size, make, model and year and call your local parts house and they can tell you this for sure.

What is the scheduled maintenence requirement for a timing belt on a 2005 chevy cavalier?

assuming you have a 2.2 lt ecotec engine, according to what i read from GM reports, they say these motors are suppose to be pretty much maintenance free! ha! so they say. i've had nothing else but problems with them & so has all my family & friends. true, but unless you've had major problems with it you should never have to even touch the timing chain @ all. i drove my old FORD into the gound @ 635,000 klts, took great care of it & never changed the timing chain on it. ya, you guessed it, i'm a ford man & always will be. my wife is selling her cavalier. all the best.

Where is the oil filter for a 2005 chevy cavalier located

ECOTec 2.4 Liter engine (and all ECOTec engine blocks in 4 cylinder sizes) have a cartridge type oil filter housing on the front of the block, driver's side of the vehicle.

The cap must be removed with a wrench, and the filter pulled out, then the new one put in. Now is usually a good time to replace the O-ring on the cap.

When to replace timing chain on 2003 cavalier

Hi there, you wont have to replace you timing chain unless your cavalier has very high miles or if it is ratteling. There is no set timing chain replacement interval. Chains are supposed to last the life of the engine. Hope this answers your question. Cheers Ben

Turns over but won't fire

well the plastic piece are from the timing chain guides are either broken or ripped off,and the metal rattling was probably the timing chain,,i think the timing chain jmped or broke and broke the guides,if thats the car you most likely bent the valves in the head,,,i would remove the cam cover and the timing chain cover and see what you got,you may need a engine

My car slowed down stoped wont start acts like it wonts to but wont i think it might be fuel filter or pump

sounds like it's not getting gas to the engine. i'm trusting there is gas in the tank. you are probably right about the pump.
