You dont give specifics about the vehicle, but if it has the CVT transmission then that could be the problem. They are known to get hot and go into a safe-mode. It happens more on the larger vehicles than on the smaller cars. Look into getting the trans fluid changed (special nissan cvt fluid, NOT regular atf) and having an external trans cooler installed. Plenty of discussions online about this issue.

Not much info hear But 1 of the first things to check on any car not running right is the Air Filter. because your car has to breath to run right. if you hold the filter up to the sun you should be able to see the light through filter. it is almost impossible to clean most filters. if any questions just replace air filter! same with fuel filter. you did not say if your check engine light is on? if it is most any auto parts will put a scanner on your car for Free and print out the codes if you ask. 1976 or newer. good luck

SOURCE: 2004 NISSAN QUEST. I recently purchased a 2004 nissan quest that couldn't go pass 35 mph and as a result the bank 2 converter was replaced as well as O2 sensors now it has the speed but pass 5

Hello
The Engine and Automatic Transmission (not applicable to manual transmissions) in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM and TCM (Power Train Control Module, Transmission Control Module). When a problem like this or other drive-ability related problems occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. Also always check fuel pressure for correct spec for your make and engine type.

Monitor Reset

The following conditions must occur to complete a Trip and test all OBD II monitors and components including the Catalyst Efficiency Monitor:
-- The misfire, comprehensive component, and adaptive fuel monitors are checked continuously from engine warm-up and can complete any time.
-- The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) monitor test requires a series of idles and accelerations.
-- The heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) monitor requires a steady speed drive for approximately 1 minute at 30 to 40 mph.
-- The catalyst efficiency monitor requires a steady speed drive for 1 minute and 20 seconds beyond the HO2S monitor test at 40 to 65 mph.
If you cut engine off before test are completed then you must wait for a 6 hour cool down before monitors will run again.
