SOURCE: 2003 chevy silverado will not shift into drive or overdrive.
transmission shift solenoid is stuck open this is a common vehicle issue in automatics and not particular to any make or model vehicle 15 dollar part and arm and leg for labor if taken in
heres an idea to try
take out the transmission filter and replace with new one make sure to take not of any metal debry in trans pan this indicates the trans had sheered its gears down and a trans rebuild is needed
the transfilter needs to be changed at a certain milage interval they can get clogged up
there is a kit you buy for your truck at any parts store
its an easy change hour of time unbolt trans pan unbolt trans filter and put new one in
kit comes with new seals less than an hour you can do it yourself
to overdrive you would feel a difference in shift badley if it was that something to keep in mind

I had the same problem to the T. I look online for all the same solutions and I can only tell you what worked for me. Actually what I think worked, HAHA! I went out to my truck and unplugged both battery terminals from battery and placed them together to supposedly reset the electrical system, "so I was told." After this for about 20 min or so, I went back out and in this order; re-installed positive terminal followed by negative terminal to battery. After this I checked locks and windows and surprise they worked. I've seen a lot of people say that all they did was wait and they worked later, so maybe it was that and not what I did, but who cares, they work now. Give it a shot and if it works for you, GREAT let me know, I HATE CHEVY CAUSE OF THIS......they wanted me to pay for a stupid diagnostic before they would help me........well screw you I fixed myself. LATER

It is likely you lock-up converter. Try using Lube-gard trans additive for converter shutter. I know O'reilly's has it.

Is your tow/haul button on? If not, it could be activated erroneously. It'll keep it from shifting into overdrive and locking the torque converter, and also keeps the transmission from shifting more often. If this isn't the issue, then you'll have to look into your computer, as the transmission shifting is controlled by the computer. The transmissions were the weak points on these trucks; only good for max 200000 miles, so if you're getting close, keep that in mind.
