Instead of a dealer ... go to a small muffler shop (not some big national shop).

Big shops will want to add co$tly services.

Should be around $50 (they will keep your old cc . it contains platinum).

Direct fit after market converters are sold at most parts stores and the comon failing ones are in stock and the others can be ordered. Rember you get what you pay for and the cause of the failure needs to be found. or the newunit will fail. The dianoseses by check engine light codes can frequently be wrong as some of the sensers that report the failure can be bad theirselfs and a vacume leak injector failure or leak can make the sensers Lie and the code will be 420 cat ineffective. The problem is the cats ineffective not nessary to be bad. 420 code has many causes and many times its not the converter just the contitions arent right for it to work right.

You can use a universal and it would be a good idea to have a professional weld it on, unless you are an experienced welder. Most any shop will be able to assist you with welding it on but they might not cover the parts warranty, just there work.

1999 Ford Contour SVT. I need to replace all my catalytic converters on my car.

Do you have a performance problem or an emission problem? Who is telling you your cats are bad and need to be replaced? Of course the average converter lasts about 10 years so yours could be not as effective now as they were new. Any good muffler shop can replace them.

Where is catalytic converter on 2006 kia sportage? how many are there?

Hello Denise, its hard to believe that your computer didn't give a code that tell which one it is or that you have a bad o2 sensor ,sensors gather data from o2 sensor and that would give away which cat is bad if any ,can you have someone elise check it over before fixing it?

Toyota camry problems

before you go changing out the catalytic converter realize that the engine light comes on with only a few percent of the catalytic converter plugged - so before you change it, clan out the engine combustion chamber. i did this on my ford Taurus and with a $5 can of carb cleaner, it solved the problem

I replaced all 4 of my oxygen sensors and my check engine light came back on and i went to get the car check out and i was told that its still my oxygen sensors what else might it be?

The catalytic converter may be no good. The reason for multiple O2 sensors is to measure the the catalytic converters performance. The easiest way to determine if the cat is working properly is to measure the temperature on both sides of the cat. The temp going in should be approximately 100 deg less then what's coming out of the cat. So if the temp is 250* going in to the catalytic converter, it should be about 350* coming out. the best way to measure the temp is to use a laser pointer temp gauge. If the temperature is the same on both ends, I recommend replacing the catalytic converter.

How can you tell which catalytic converter is bad on an 03 navigator

You have 4 oxygen sensors,1 at each exhaust manifold and 1 after each catalytic converters.Usually a scan tool won't pin point which sensor is bad.It can get real expensive just replacing parts. The easy and cheapest way to find out is take to dealer for oil change and they will scan it for free and tell you what is wrong and the cost, you have option,to let them repair or fix yourself, now you know what is wrong,I take my Truck to dealer for oil changes to get free scan.

Catalytic converter has plugged up twice in 3000 miles

Catalytic convertor fails due to oil burning, recent head gasket, improper fuel control, but plugging up at 3000 mile misfire surely plug it up when the vehicle is dumping gas in the catalytic, lean misfire ,running very rich due to a coolant temperature.Who is putting this on?I dont know what state you are from,a catalytic should not be installed unless the vehicle is in proper fuel control.and whoever installed this should foot the bill. You need to claim warranty regardless and plus there is a EO# that must match the vehicle.

If i have had both catalytic converters replaced could the shop have not put the correct ones on? I was told the vehicle needs high efficiency catalytic converter

wer the o2 sensors replaced? were factory cats put in? universal cats are highly probable for comebacks.cats will not go bad on their own. there is always a reason. if the light went out for awhile and came back and thats the only thing you replaced, then its very probable that the cause of the first problem recreated the new problem on these cats.

Engine using oil. No sign of leaking. Catalytic converter replaced 13 months ago, now needs replaced. Told need new engine. What is causing the catalylic converter to plug?

Was a leak down test performed on the motor? This will determine if the oil loss is due to bad rings or a head gasket.A head gasket can be repaired, rings will require an overhaul or new motor.Have checked the coolant for oil contamination?

Catalytic Converters

Yes any mechanic with a code scanner will be able to tell you if one or both are bad. each one has its own code. If it is a front cat then it should be a up stream cat and if it is the one further from the motor then it will be a down stream cat
