I was driving home in my 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited and all of a sudden my ac started blowing warm air. when i got home and looked under the hood the main belt was smoking where it was touching what i believe is the air conditioning unit. now the ac won't blow cold air and there's a faint burnt rubber/plastic smell. does my a/c just need recharged? please help!
Sounds like the clutch field on or bearing on the front of the compressor went bad take a closer look at the pulley on the comp. and see if there is any debris or melted plastic coming out behind the pulley,if so the clutch, field and bearing should be replaced, hope this helps

i wouldnt drive it to far the pulley could lock up and the belt would be ruined and it might also throw the belt, which means you would lose your power steering, charging system, cooling system, take it to a local shop with a good reputation, hope this helps
