You will need to take it to a parts store like NAPA and see if they will read the tcm (transmission control module) for codes, if all else fails then take it to a transmission shop and ask if they can scan it for codes and check the functionality of the tow haul button if it is not functioning, it could be just a broken wire from flexing at the base of the shifter.

I have found that on three silverado's there is a plastic clamp on the bottom side of steering column where the wires become broken and can short out. You have to remove the column covers to see this, it should be claser to the lowe dash trim panel area needs a shifter to repair unless you can fix that little wire!

It saves your transmission from costly repairs. The little bit of fuel you think you may save by not using it, will certainly not outweigh that big bill for new transmission. Saves transmission from shifting up & down too much.

After time, the wires at the end of shifter break because they were cut short at factory and have little or no play. You will have to take column cover off where you can splice wire back together. It’s best to solder them together for best contact.
