Question about 2002 Saturn Sl

My car wont start but the battery is not dead. my check engine light is on. can i get a code for the check engine light myself or do i have to take it to a computer to read it

Hello, I will try to help you but you need to tell me the make, model and year of our car because different cars have different methods for retrieving the codes. If your car is before 1995, many of them, but not all, allow you to get the codes by grounding the test connector and watching the check engine light flash the code to you. Other cars require a special hand held diagnostic tester that you can buy at the local auto parts store to read the codes.

This model will have to have the diagnostic computer hooked to it. You can purchase one at your local parts house and have for future use, they usually run between $90-$200 depending on how good of one you get but a basic one is all you need. You can get the code without moving the vehicle and call some parts houses and they can tell you what it means, but the scanner will give you a basic definition of the code to give you idea of where to start.

You need to clear the codes first. Check fuel pressure.

what lights, you wean the cluster warning lights are dead.
or the cluster park , illimunation lights are dead.
are parks working (outside)
are head lights bright? outside)
wont start, does that mean it wont CRANK?
that means the starter is silent or is just a click

nobody can answer (correctly) lacking those facts.


1: check all fuses.
2: head lights work if not battery terms are rusty clean them.?
3: key on.
4: CEL lamp must glow, (check engine light) if not fuses blown or battery is dead. for sure.
4: tune key to start, does starter spin crank shaft fast?
ill stop here. my wild guess is you will not get this far.

Car idle at light and then it cuts off and will not start up again. I had the alternator replaced, checked battery,its good and checked all fuses
do you mean its totally dead .
or just grinds on the starter an engine wont fire.
does it have any odb computer codes . free test at some parts stores.
when an alternator is dead lots of times the battery an the connectors an starter go out too in a chain reaction.

I have a 1995 geo metro notice my dlr lights not working and the car wont star it wont even click or turn the motor all the fuses are fine and when turn the switch to on position engine light come on
head lights must come on, or the battery is dead.!!!
the head lights work key off. so that is first check, and first to fix.

when this happens you have a dead battery, (fuses good, and tested all fuse,in engine bay.
  1. the classic, jump start using jumper cables .
  2. charge the battery so it reads 12.6vdc rested
  3. try a known good battery in car, that works in another car.

easy, right?

No power to car key wont turn
check the alternator and check for a short or ground a wire may be touching the frame you may want to check the engine computer module

No spark 1995 geo prizm,battery went dead charged battery and now the car wont start and found that there is no spark
Check the fuses. You might have blown one of them while charging the battery.

2007 Mazda cx-7 battery completely dead the engine starts on and off
Sounds like a bad power connection either on positive or negative side of battery. Could also be a bad connection from the fuseable links of fuse box in engine bay. Camshaft misaligned code is more likely on these models with the L3 engine a stretched timing chain issue. Very common but Mazda wont admit to it. Cheers

My check engine light went on in my 2000 alero and then my car just died? my battery was completely dead and bought new battery but car wont start it just cranks over like it wants to but dont?? please...
tow it to autozone and have them put a scanner on it and read the codes then get back to me withe codes ok

you need a reader pluged into your car to read any codes unless it is bluetooth set up...most likely not...too early in time for that yet....um maybe the starter relay or even the starter solonoid or loose battery terminal or broken connection in main + battery lead somewhare or someones tried to hot wire it
