Most generally it is a bad transmission range sensor ( I know it sounds crazy and unrelated) but it's true! My 97 GL did the exact same thing. If you have some basic mechanical skills it is a pretty straight forward repair. Good Luck!
try unplugging the transmission range selector on the side of the trans and see if yur radio works properly after that,i know this sounds weird but give it a shot,i have seen these switches keep radios and windows from workin on taurus's and windstars, hope this helps
Look under your car and check each side for a big washer with a rubber mount to the body. It almost sounds like the frame mounts are loose and the drivetrain is separating from the body in reverse.
This could bind the wheels and pinch wires to things like the radio.
Years ago Ford had a problem with rust on the washers allowing the rubber parts to slip through.
i had this same problem...i had to go through and change a few sensors and my EGR valve...now my windows roll up and down, the radio stays on and it doesnt stall in the middle of driving..
transmission range sensor needs changing $74 brand new from napa mine broke and the radio, windows and power steering stopped working put new sensor on worked perfect,
until i took it to oil can henrys to have a transmisson flush please dont have that done or you will have to replace the whole gear box
