Your volkswagen has an external fuel pump under the car near the tank... the filter shold also be mounted there... They are on a timer, they will actuate during engine cranking... Have someone crank the engine (as in trying to start it) and you should be able to hear the pump operate... if it doesn't , check for power with a test light... the polarity is typically marked on bosch pumps... if you have power, and no pump sound.... u need a pump. CIS injection systems turn to **** when they sit a long time, drain the tank (alot of german cars have drain plugs, or take the hose at the pump off and put fresh fuel in it...

Parked 1988 Chevy Celebrity in garage last night. Today it wont start. If I pump the accelerator a bunch it acts like it wants to start and as soon I quit pumping it just turns over. Fuel pump kicks on...

Hello: 1st, pumping the accelerator on a fuel injected GM car does NOT do any good. In fact if you put the accelerator to the floor you put the system in the lean mode ie, reduce fuel. You will need a fuel pressure gage and there should be a schrader valve on the fuel lines/fuel rail where you can connect the fuel pressure gage. The fuel pressure should be about 10 psi if you have throttle body injection. Is your car a 4 cylinder? If its a 4 cylinder you may not have a schrader valve to connect the pressure gage. You will need a high dollar kit to tap into the fuel line. Have someone attempt to start the car and you remove the air cleaner an see if the injector is spraying fuel.

I parked my car 1 year ago and was low on gas .i think the gas evaporated.i put 1 gallon of gas in the tank.the car would turn over but wont start .do i have to prime the carberator?if so how ?the car is...

make sure you have new gas in the tank and then start the car with the accelerator all the way to the floor until it starts..dont pump it, just keep it all the way to the floor until it starts and then let off on it... if the system has been empty it may take a few times

'88 VW Fox intermittently dying after starting

These CIS vehicle are tempermental. Best thing to do is change the air filter, clean air flow sensor plate(Spray gunout on a rag and lightly clean it ) Gun out throttle body and a slight idle adjustment. Finallyonce a month put some fuel injection cleaner in the tank. See how this works before we start testing items.

Gas leak

You can buy the fuel pipes and if you are handy with tools, you should be able to do the repairs. Source the pipes from motor factors.
