You must remove the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump.
Remove fuel tank.
Remove any dirt that has accumulated around fuel pump module retaining flange.
Turn fuel pump module locking retainer ring (#1)counterclockwise using Fuel Tank Sender Wrench 310-D006 and remove fuel pump module locking retainer ring.
Pull fuel pump module sender plate up out of fuel tank until locking tabs(#3) for fuel pump module are accessible. Reach through fuel pump module opening, squeeze both locking tabs together and remove fuel pump module from fuel tank.
The Fuel pump is in the tank. The only thing I disagree with in emissionwiz post is whether to drain the tank or not. Chrysler started putting drains on the tanks in 2000 to make this easier when they went to a plastic fuel tank. I would drain the tank from the drain, disconnect the wiring then drop the tank to replace the pump. This all assumes that you verified that the fuse in the interior panel is not blown and the fuel pump relay in the power distribution box under the hood is still good.
Yes ,,instructions are below, Use eye protection for this procedure Remove or Disconnect:
Relieve Fuel Pressure
Disconnect negative battery cable
Raise vehicle on hoist
Remove Fuel Tank
Remove Fuel Gage sending and pump assembly by turning cam lock ring counterclockwise.
Lift assembly from fuel tank and remove fuel pump from fuel gage sender unit.
Disconnect pump wires, hose clamps, and clamp around pump body
Pull pump assembly out of rubber connectors
Inspect fuel pump attaching hose for any signs of deterioration. Replace as
necessary.
Install or Connect:
Push fuel pump assembly into attaching hose
Connect pump wires, hose clamps at attaching hose and around pump body
Place Fuel tank sending unit and pump assembly into tank using new O-ring
Place cam lock over assembly and lock by turning clockwise
Install Fuel Tank
Start engine and check fuel pipe connector for visual leaks
Empty fuel tank, support fuel tank, remove straps from tank (you'll probably have to replace those). Remove fuel filler neck from inside fuel door or at tank, drop tank, remove wire clips and fuel lines as necessary, remove fuel pump, put new pump in. Installation is reverse.
The fuel pump is in the fuel tank. You have to remove the fuel tank to get to it. The fuel pump is a complete assembly including the fuel sending unit. Aprox $250.00 some you can get the pump only and replace the pump on the sending unit aprox $120.00. the unit is held inplace with 6 small boltd. make sure you clean top of tank off befor removing assembly. so dirt does not go into tank. replace seal also.
Your pump is not compatible with the supercharger pump. The pressure rates are much high for a supercharged engine. Your normally aspirated engine requires less fuel, thus, a smaller capacity pump.
You may want to check under the rear seat to see if there is an access hatch to remove the fuel pump/sending assembly. Then dropping the tank would not be an issue.
I would not suggest putting a used fuel pump into any vehicle. A new one should be available for 50-100 dollars. Also replace the strainer at the base of the fuel pump when you replace the pump.
I believe the fuel pump is on the tank, as well as a filter in the tank itself.
I would check for fuses for the fuel pump.
I would check for power to the fuel pump. If there is power to the fuel pump, then the problem is the filter, or a stopped line. If not then replace the fuel pump. Replacing the fuel pump can be tricky, especially if you have a full tank.
Lower the tank to the ground.
The fuel pump should be on the top of the tank.
Remove the wires, and screws holding the fuel pump in the tank.
