Wow I have used Black RTV a lot and not sure there is anything when it hardens that will loosen it up. I know when you get it on your hands you either get it off when it is first put on or you wear it off. We take it off of our hands with Carb Cleaner or brake cleaner although it isn't the best for skin. Might try that. Other then that I am not sure.

Hi I have a oil leak from the drive shaft in my 1250 bandit k9 , looks like the oil seal , does any one no if it can be replaced without pulling engine to bits , regards graham

You mean shifter seal? This is a chain bike, so there is no shaft..

Yes those seals usually pop out from the outside after gear lever is removed.. be careful not to score the aluminum housing when removing - if in doubt use a thin layer of Permatex Ultra Black (arguably the only RTV that shd ever be sold) and leave over night..

2004 Chevy Avalanche water leaking at rear window and bed panel

The window gasket has failed. The quick fix is to locate the crack and seal it with RTV Black or a similar product. If that doesn't do it, then you'll have to have the window removed and reinstalled with a new gasket.

Remove a 2005 cr-v honda oil pan

Remove all bolts in the pan assembly. You may need to remove other objects that may obstruct the removal of the oil pan bolts. It would be a good idea to have the oil drained prior to pan removal. The oil pan uses a special RTV sealant instead of a gasket and can be a pain to seperate from the engine block. Use a soft faced hammer and strike the sides of the oil pan until it begins to loosen from the block. You can then use a screwdriver/prybar to seperate the seal and have the pan come off

How to replace the differential seal

If you are talking about the cover plate on the pumkin all you need to do is loosen the bolts on the cover but dont take them out yet, after you loosen them take out the bottom bolts first to drain the fluid then take all the remaining bolts out, scrape off the old seal on the cover and the differential housing, clean off with alcohol or brake cleaner and install new seal with a light even coat of RTV, torque bolts according to specs and in the pattern suggested, add gear oil and you are done.

How hard to change thermostat?

Follow the upper radiator hose to the top of the engine. There should be a cast housing with two bolts at the end where the hose is attached. Remove the two bolts and gently pry up the housing off the engine. Once removed, you will see the thermostat and this can easily be removed with a needle nosed pliers. Clean the housing and intake manifold of all old gasket material as this is necessary for proper sealing of new gasket. Next, insert new thermostat. Now you will be ready to put the gasket on after you have coated both sides with a gasket sealent. Any kind of heat treated rtv will work. Tighten both bolts equally being careful not to crank down too hard on these bolts as the housing is generally made of an aluminum cast alloy and will crack under extreme tightening.
