99 Regal Shuts off w/ engine at normal temp. Starts when cooled.

I drive a 99 buick regal LS...In the winter the car runs fine with out shuting of..but spring and summer, the cars engine shuts off even though engine temp. is normal. The warmer the weather, the wuicker the engine heats up, the wuicker it shuts off. could these be the fuel pump? or something else?

    Well when the car shut off there would be light clear smell-less smoke coming from an area near the second spark plug but it's not visible of where the smoke is coming from... And I had the guy from Autozone run the FREE check engine light test and all he said was there was a miss fire in one of the cylinders because of a bad spark plug and that my o2 censor was the only thing coming up.

Check coolant temp sensor. If bad, it will make computer think the engine is still cold, causing excessive fuel delivery and flooding. These sensors can be removed and tested (see instructions in shop manual)

Is your SECURITY light flashing? If so, you have a V.A.T.S. problem. VATS stands for Vehicle Anti Theft System. Try getting a new ignition key made because the resistance value has probably changed in the one you have. If that doesn't do it you'll need to get a VATS bypass.

Hard Start When Cold 01 Bucik Regal
Did you check the fuel pump relay ?
You would need to use a fuel pressure gauge and check pressure before you crank the engine.
When you turn the key switch on, the pump relay is supposed to provide power for 3 seconds to boost fuel pressure.
If fuel pressure is ok, the coolant temp sensor could be telling the computer the engine is warmer than it really is.

99 buick regal 3.8 starts for 3 seconds and shuts down,
Had the same problem drove me nuts until I tried disconnecting Mass Air Flow Sensor, the car should drive normally but with a "Service Engine Soon Light" on. Mass air flow can run from $140 up, picked one up at recycler for $40.

Worth a try.
