2000 Chevrolet Impala blower motor work from 1-4 but not on 5th speed why?

The blower motor relay is energized when the Blower Motor Control is set to the High position. This removes the blower motor resistors from the circuit and battery voltage is then applied directly from the HVAC BLO fuse (RH IP Accessory Wiring Junction Block) to the blower motor though the relay switch contacts. The blower motor then runs at high speed.

HVAC Blower Controls Circuit Description
The blower motor is a variable speed motor. The motor operates at a higher rate when voltage is increased to the maximum level.
The blower motor resistors reduce the voltage supplied from the A/C FAN fuse (LH IP Accessory Wiring Junction Block) when the blower control is set at low and medium speeds (speeds 1-4).

The heater fan only works on the 3rd fan setting, and only blows a little air. The A/C only works minimally when set on defrost and the 3rd fan speed setting. I was told I need a new control switch, but...

you need the service and repair manual in which you will find the part number and also how to fix the part with diagram you can get the manual from the given link http://toolsnyou.com/

No high speed fan

If all other speeds work then it is very possible you need a blower motor resistor. ASE master tech. ROB ADAIR

Heater blower

Sounds like the blower motor resistor is bad. These things go bad all the time. and for the switching modes there is a vacuum line that runs under the window in the engine compartment and runs by the alternator, its tiny and may take a few minutes to find. check first by the evaporator case and follow it by the alternator to the driverside of the throttle body. these too break and will not allow the heater mode changes. the blower motor resistor controls the fan speeds and the vacuum line allows which vent the air flow goes through.
