Well im guessing it an automatic sooo it think you need a new transmission bc i had a old nissan stanza and my tranny did the same thing and i pulled it out took it apart and saw that the internals were shot. Now being that the car is really new i would suggest bringing it back to were you bought it from or call to see if theres a warrenty that covers powertrain on your car. It may also be a sensor located on the transmission but im not to familiar with its design. But if its that new definitley try to get it to the dealer

I have tried to put it manually into 1st and 2nd gear. It doesn't help and it doesn't even feel like the transmission shifts when i do this. That is why i think the problems might be with the hold button due to the fact that the hold light on the dash will not light up no matter how many times i press the hold button.
Sorry I don't have a solution, but Have you tried to manually shift it, that is, put the shifter in 1st, and to shift it like you would a manual trans.? This of course is not a fix, but will hopefully allow you to use the vehicle as necessary until it's fixed, and to avoid the strain on it of starting up in 3rd or 4 th gear.
