There are no marks. You need to remove #1 spark plug. Bring the piston up on TDC (all the way up). Then remove valve cover. On the drivers side of the camshafts you will see a slot ground into the ends. The slots are off center of the camshft. There is a tool to fit into the slots tieing both cams at the same time. Once the tool is installed and the #1 piston was up before you locked the cams you can remove the T-belt for replacement & water pump replacement.

fm1069500554000x.pngBefore installing tool. If the belt broke turn the engine so the #1 piston is half way up. This way you will not bend the valves while turning cams. If you feel that the cams are very hard to turn or stops turning then turn crank by hand to lower piston away from valve. Then turn the cams clockwise or counter clockwise slow one at a time too the proper slot position for the tool to fit. Once the cam marks are lined up bring the #1 piston to its TDC.

Where are the timing marks on a 1998 ford contour lx zetec

If you are refering to the timing marks for timing chain alignment then you will need a special tool that fits in the end of the camshafts on the drivers side of the engine. You can make a tool to align the 2 camshafts out of some flat stock. The crankshaft mark will be on the crankshaft gear and engine. There are no marks on the camshaft gears.
