Wont turn over - no starting clicking like starter going - battery brand new - have lights and radio, etc. turn the key - hear fuel pump run - turn the key to start and hear just one "click"
You will have to check, at the starter, for power to the SMALL wire on the starter solenoid (which is on the starter) when turning the ignition switch to start. If there is power to this wire ( usually purple ) and power at the LARGE cable ( from the battery ) at the starter end.....you need a starter.
If you do not have power at the small wire at the solenoid with the key in start position and battery power is OK.....check the safety neutral switch.Moving the shifter around a little can sometimes allow the car to start if the neutral switch is worn.
A new battery does not always mean a fully charged battery. Try a boost from another car before testing the starter for power.
The battery cables need to be clean and tight....and check the ground to the engine as well.
Everything else may work OK with bad connections, they don't use the power the starter needs to turn the engine over.

Check your battery voltage, sound to me like your battery cold cranking amps is low. Its enough the power the lights but not turn the engine over. Have the battery replace
First, make sure you can turn the engine by hand. If you can't then the starter can't turn it either. Have someone else turn the key and look for the source of the click...may be a relay. Go over the starting circuit with a volt meter. Check for power at the starter main terminal and then with the key turned to "start" check for power at the trigger terminal on the starter. Check battery voltage and check relay operation. You have a neutral safety switch on the transmission if its an automatic and a clutch switch if it's a stick. Check them as well. Make sure battery grounding on fender and block are also clean and secure.
First, remove the battery terminals and clean them. Check that the ground wire on the block is tight and clean and the wire at the starter is also good. If you have 12v at the main starter cable and12v at the smaller (trigger) wire next to it with the key turned to the "start" position, it's likely the starter is bad (providing you can turn the engine by hand with key switch off) Make sure that the battery has 12v before starting diagnosis...radio etc. draw far less than the starter does. Even if relatively new, if the charging system isn't working, it will draw down the battery in less than an hour while driving..
Sounds like starter selanoid, but first make sure battery connections are clean and tight, if sure they are then turn on headlights and try to start if still clicks and lights dim its starter.
my car is a 95 buick century. frequently when i stop and shut the car off , the next few minutes when i try to start it it won't start. i have battery power as far as the whir of the fuel pump, and lights, gauges come on but when i turn the switch it won't start. Is this the starter or ignition switch? After about 30 minutes or so, it will start again.
