I have a 2004 Lincoln Navigator with 35,000 miles. Lately I get a loud noise at higher RPMs like going up hill at around 60 MPH. Sounds like I am dragging a huge piece of tinfoil under the front end of the car. Almost sounds like a sparking sound. Noise immediately stops when I crest the hill or simply let off the gas a bit. Performance is fine, there is no real affect on the car other then the noise. Any ideas??

It could be spark knock. You should have a sensor to keep that from happening. So will a tank of Premium gas.

Another possibility is a loose heat shield on the exhaust system. Lincolns usually have longer warranties, call a dealer and see if it is covered. If it is part of the emissions system, the warranty is even longer.

1st thing, replace your fuel filter? Verify cylinder 3 misfire isn't either a spark plug or coil. Swap cylinder 2 and 3 and see if the code turns into a p0302.

I have a 2004 V8

You will have to give me more to go by

You will loose 1 or 2 COP Ignition Coils
a year, not at one time though

The EGR Valve will fail, you can unplug the vacuum
hoses, plug them & drive up a hill to test that

All your testing will be done hot & around 35 mph &
on a slight curve where your off & on the gas & up &
down some

For ignition issues drop down to 25 mph approaching
a hill & try easing up it increasing very slowly on gas
& the coils will misfire & set a PO300 Codes

At 100,000 miles you replace the front 2 (only)
O2 Sensors,as they get slow on the switching counts
New ones will make your car seem new again & instant
throttle response. Only the front sensors, leave the rear
monitor sensors alone,they stay

The Spark Plugs are special to the LS & get replaced every 3 years
not over 60 to 70,000 miles.

Have to use premium gas,or you get a knock,
you can not adjust out

Clean MAF Sensor with CRC MAF Cleaner.

98 lincoln navigator loud noise, shaking, high rpm at idle, drive

I don't know how much oil you had to put in but it sounds like you have maybe more than opne issue and both sound major. One is engine reving and speed not picking up sounds like trans problem. Two the engine shaking and making noise and being run low on oil leans toward possible engine damage. If your mechanicly inclined check all fluids and when checking trans fluid smell it. If it smells burnt the trans has been damaged. Check oil pressure and make sure coolant is full. You may have to take it into the shop.

There is a loud noise at 45mph.

Find a quiet empty stretch of road. Go 50 mph, put the trans in NEUTRAL and shut the engine. If noise is still there, swing car left and right to detect noise differences. Could be hub or axle bearings. Not engine or trans if noise is still there. Hope this helps

What do you mean by loud... Loud where??? If noise is from engine, make sure that the mechanical fan clutch is not "locked" (it's supposed to freewheel when cold... if it does not, it will "roar" when driving.

1997 ford expo makes loud clasking noise

If it was your cranshaft making that kind of noise.your motor would have frozen up already.it seems more like a tranny problem than an engine problem. Take it to a good mechanic. It sounds like your tranny is about to go.
