I need a diagram of an ford focus timing chain and cambelt for x reg 2000 i am tranferring a timing chain and a timing belt and diesel pump from one engine to another. im not sure how to get the engine to tdc position as you can not remove spark plugs

TDC has marks on the pulleys and engine block to line up, best bet is to get a haynes manual to show you exactly where. Too complacated to explain where they are on this

This unit will be running a timing chain. Now,The 1.6 "diesel" engine has both a belt and chain. In the diesel edition, the belt runs from the crank shaft to the cam and the other cam is ran by the chain.
(you need a set of timing tools to do this)you need to place timing pin in engine block located drivers side just above the sump you need to set pistons at tdc to do this turn crankshaft clockwise till the crank stops against the pin then you need to take off the rocker cover place cam setting bar in the end of camshfts you then need to loosen cam sprockets dont remove undo tensioner remove belt replace with new starting at crank anticlockwise tension up tighten cam sprockets remove bar and pins 2 rotations by hand to see if everything ok then start

YES it is you need specialist timing pins to lock the timing chain and sprocket in placeand you need to lock the engine and camshaft,you also sometimes need to re-program the pump as the immobiliser is inside,not a job for the faint hearted if in doubt take it to an expert it will be cheaper in the long run.
assuming that you are asking about the timing belt?. if you are not mechcanically inclined, you might not want to tackle this one yourself. if you don't do exactly what needs to be done you will be doing damage and costing yourself a whole lot more than you would have "if" it would have been done by a professional.
