You might want to take that to a transmission shop and it sounds like the tranny is going out

What does it mean when my 07 Pontiac g6 cranks but won’t shift gears like go in reverse

If automatic it probably needs adjustment or there is an issue with the clutches. If manual transmission, could be bearing damage.

06 Pontiac G6 3.5 will NOT engage in 1st gear in auto or manual (2nd 3rd an possibly 4th work). I have already check shift solenoids, I've changed the trans filter an fluid. I've also checked all fuses....

If you can find an honest transmission shop I would pay the few bucks to diagnois. Could be a serious transmission repair needed which is very likely if it has high mileage.

Was there a recall on 2008 pontiac g6 for transmission problems

Yes there was. Here is the exact recall and claim number. Also is a phone number you can call for further assistance.

2008 Pontiac G6 Power Train Recall 12V460000 NHTSA: Action Number: N/A Service Bulletin Number: 12V460000
  • Report Date:
    Sep 18, 2012
  • Component:
    Power Train
  • Potential Units Affected:
    426240
  • Manufacturer:
    General Motors Llc

Summary: General motors (gm) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 saturn aura and model year 2008-2010 chevrolet malibu and pontiac g6 vehicles, equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission. On these vehicles, the tabs on the transmission shift cable end may fracture and separate.

Consequence: If the tabs were to fracture and separate, the shift lever and the actual position of the transmission gear may not match. The driver would be able to move the shifter to 'park' and remove the ignition key, but the transmission gear may not be in 'park. ' the vehicle may not be able to be restarted and the vehicle could roll away after the driver has exited the vehicle, resulting in a possible crash without prior warning.

Remedy: Gm will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer over the cable end or replace the shift cable as necessary. This service will be performed free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on, or about, november 12, 2012. Owners may contact general motors at 1-800-521-7300.

Notes: General motors safety recall number 12106. Customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153);
