Overheating after 5 miles of driving. Fan not running

My friend has a buick regal and she has had the radiator replaced around July 4, she is now having a problem that started just last week. The car is overheating after about 5 miles of driving. The temp guage goes to red and the temp light comes on. She pulls over and turns the car off but the fans don't run. All she can do is wait for it to cool off and then continue driving. it took her about 2-3 hours to go 20 miles. I looked the car over but can't seem to find an obvious problem. I switched out the 5 prong fuse. I then rearanged the other 4 4 prong fuses. Still no luck.

If she paid someone to replace her radiator she should take it back. There are temperature relays around the fan I believe and the fans are not working. These are right in the area of the radiator. Someone must have disconnected the fan or the relays were failing before the radiator was working. Either way, the car is not cooling and she sought a solution to that problem. She was charged and the problem is worse. Go back to the radiator place.

If you disconnect the temp sensor and both fans work then all the relays and wiring is operating properly and the problem may be with the PCM or powertrain control module.

Where is 2003 buick century sensor located

Before you did any repairs to address your overheating problem, did you check to see if your fans were working at all ? One way to check if they are working is by starting your vehicle and turning the A/C on, they should automatically start running. If they do not, begin to perform diagnosis to that electric circuit.

1990 Buick Regal overheating

You have leaking engine cylinder head gaskets, this may be the cause of the overheating or a result of it, replace the head gaskets and have the radiator cleaned by a by a radiator repair shop, that should cure the problems.

My 1992 Chevy Beretta had several holes in the radiator so my Dad took it in to be repaired and put it back in. But now, the fan won't stay on, especially if I travel more than 5 miles. He has done...

Did the engine overheat before the radiator was replaced? If so, there is a very high likelyhood that you have a blown head gasket and/or a warped or cracked cylinder head. Those aluminum heads are VERY UNFORGIVING when it comes to being overheated!

Buick century 96 overheats, and ive done a lot to fix it....?

I had the same problem with my 96 buick century and it was the intake gasket. The 1990's buicks all have the same problem where the gasket fails after about 100,000 miles. The radiator fluid then starts leaking in with the oil. Check your oil and make sure it is not high. If it is high, then the intake gasket is your problem. They make a special replacement gasket now that does not have the same issue. However, I doubt I'm going to keep mine another 100,000 miles so I just put in the stock gasket. Hope this helps.
